5. Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile Hot Chocolate
This recipe is for you if you're more of a chocolate fan than a pumpkin lover. One of the few hot liquor drink recipes that uses made-from-scratch hot cocoa is the Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile hot chocolate recipe. The mild chili pairs well with the hot chocolate, and the fruity tamarind and spice notes add an extra layer of flavor. Here are the ingredients you'll need to make hot chocolate:
- 100% cacao powder
- Turbinado sugar
- Hot water
Mix cacao and sugar in a ratio of 1:3/4. As an example, you will need 3/4 cup sugar for 1 cup cacao. Stir in hot water slowly until you reach a thick, liquid consistency. You will need 4 oz of this chocolate mix to make two servings of Ancho Reyes hot chocolate. If you have extra, you can keep it in the refrigerator for later use.
Each serving requires 4 ounces of half-and-half and 1.25 ounces of Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile in addition to the hot chocolate mix.
Prepare spiked hot chocolate by heating half-and-half until almost simmering in a saucepan. Pour 4 ounces of chocolate mix into coffee cups, followed by Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile. To garnish, sprinkle some orange zest and cinnamon on top, or use a cinnamon stick.
