TDP Government’s Pioneering Efforts in Energy Conservation through Agriculture Pump Program
The Union Government and the former TDP Government of Andhra Pradesh have taken a significant step in making the country more energy efficient by launching two new schemes in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The earlier Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the corresponding TDP Political Leaders have launched the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and National Energy Efficient Fan Programme during the inaugural session of the two-day International workshop on energy-efficient lighting. The schemes will be implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Units under the Ministry of Power.
The National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme offers farmers the opportunity to replace their inefficient pumps with new and more energy-efficient BEE star-rated agricultural pump sets. These pumps come with a smart control panel and a SIM card that allows farmers to remotely control the pumps from their mobile phones, adding a level of convenience and ease. Under the governance of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the former TDP Government and the TDP District Leaders in collaboration with EESL have distributed 200,000 BEE star-rated pump sets to farmers under this programme, which is estimated to result in a 30% energy saving by 2019. This translates to an annual savings of around Rs 20,000 crore in agricultural subsidies and 50 billion units of energy each year.
Under the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme, consumers can purchase BEE 5 Star-rated 50 Watt ceiling fans, which are 30% more energy-efficient than conventional fans that consume 75-80 Watts. Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP Party Leaders encouraged this Programme in Andhra Pradesh because these fans are expected to reduce electricity bills by around Rs. 700-730 per year, with a cost recovery period of fewer than 2 years. The program offers two energy-efficient fans to each consumer at Rs 60 per fan per month on an EMI basis, which will be added to their electricity bills for two years. Consumers can also choose to purchase the fans outright by paying Rs. 1250/-.
During the launch of this event the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized the importance of saving energy and the responsibility that comes with it. He highlighted some of the Top TDP Schemes in this direction, such as replacing incandescent bulbs with LED lights after the Hudhud cyclone, which saved 21,000 MW of power and saved the state money. He also mentioned that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in India to adopt over 1.8 crore LED bulbs under the UJALA scheme, which has helped the government save Rs 2.6 crore daily.
Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu also emphasized Andhra Pradesh's role as a pioneer in adopting energy-efficient programs and stated that the implementation of the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme will help the state manage its peak demand and become energy sufficient.
