Types of AI (Types of Artificial Intelligence)

Before understanding the types of AI, we need to know what is artificial intelligence. (AI) is a technology or system designed to perform tasks and make decisions that typically require human intelligence. Inspired by the human brain and actions, AI uses programming languages like Python, R, and Java, along with machine learning libraries such as Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, and incorporates mathematical concepts and domain-specific knowledge to function effectively.

why AI is divided into types, Artificial Intelligence is divided based on its capabilities and functionalities. Many people remain confused about what the types of AI mean; it simply means that models with strong and unique capabilities and functionalities are classified into different types.

Now I will tell you about three types of AI, and what capabilities these AI types have:

Narrow AI:

Narrow AI, also known as Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), is a specific intelligence that can only perform specific tasks. Many people also know it as weak AI.

Narrow AI uses natural language processing (NLP) to understand and solve problems. Narrow AI can perform many tasks such as:

  • Speech recognition
  • Image recognition
  • Self-driving cars
  • AI virtual assistants (e.g., Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant)

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI):

AGI, whose full name is Artificial General Intelligence, is also known as Deep AI or Strong AI. This AI model has the ability to possess the same abilities as humans and can perform tasks that humans can do. However, it is still in progress, and there are still some things that only humans can do.

Examples of AGI:

  • Chatbots
  • Generative AI

Artificial Superintelligence (ASI):

ASI, which is completely a theoretical concept, is the most advanced model of AI, also known as Superintelligence. This artificial intelligence is beyond human capabilities. The job of this AI model is to perform tasks that humans cannot do. Whether it is the thinking ability or decision-making skills of humans, doing things beyond all these is the job of this superintelligence.

AI has now completely achieved Artificial General Intelligence, so it is working on its next step, which is called Artificial Superintelligence.

Some FAQs about AI -

Q: What are the top 5 generative AI tools?

The top 5 generative AI tools are:

  1. OpenAI's GPT-3: Used for generating human-like text.
  2. DALL-E: Generates images from textual descriptions.
  3. DeepArt: Transforms photos into artwork using AI.
  4. RunwayML: Provides various generative models for creative applications.
  5. AIVA: Composes music using AI.

Q: How can AI be dangerous for humans?

AI can be dangerous for humans if misused or if it becomes too autonomous. Potential dangers include job displacement, privacy invasion, biased decision-making, autonomous weapons, and a lack of control over superintelligent AI systems.

Q: Can AI replace human jobs?

AI has the potential to replace certain human jobs, particularly those that involve repetitive tasks or data analysis. However, it also creates new job opportunities in AI development, maintenance, and other fields. The net impact on employment depends on various factors including industry adaptation and the creation of new job roles.
