How To Know If Your Car Battery Is on Its Way Out?
Be it the starting of the car or enabling the automatic transmission or headlights, all these processes require electricity which are all supplied by the battery of the car. The supply of the electricity has become a very important thing in modern time. By the increase in the use of the electricity, we are now be able to take the advantages of various advanced systems which make out many of our day-to-day activities easier. It’s the electricity source which decides how well it can make a system perform. If the source has some faults, then there would be its effects. A battery is a source of electrical energy but it would not function properly, then how would you be able to get the job done? Here I’m gonna discuss about the different signs of bad battery.
Why the battery fails?
The battery has become one of the major electric energy sources. It consists of chemicals which store the energy and supply it to the system when its terminals are connected to an electrical circuit. From simple toys and watches which require very little amount of energy to the vehicles and UPS which require a high amount of energy, all these things use batteries. The batteries can be rechargeable or non-rechargeable and there are wide range of batteries varying in their voltage. They all are used in different systems. Gradually the charge in the battery begins to drain out due to their use.
Ultimately, they stop supplying energy to the system until, they are recharged or replaced. The battery also has various parts and they too have the chances to fail. So, we can say that there are various reasons behind a battery to fail. Here you have to know about the causes of battery to fail which can be useful for you to get the problem solved.
l Battery is completely discharged
l Faults in the charging system
l Corroded battery terminals, damaged battery cables,
l loss of electrolytes from the battery
When the battery gets completely discharged and have not power to supply, then you would find that the battery would not be working. In the car, batteries are recharged by the alternator which get the energy from engine and convert it into electrical energy. If the alternator or its cables have damages, then the electricity may not flow to the battery properly and it would get drained out of power. If the terminals of the battery get corroded, then they would start to get a powdery layer over them which prevents the flow of current to the cables. Some battery may lead out or get dried out of their fluids. This would make the battery faulty.
Signs of battery problems
If the battery fails completely or dies, then it would lead to troubles. So, it’s important to know when the battery starts to fail, that is at the earliest so that you would not be in trouble and can fix the battery problem easily. One of the things by which you can know when to check or fix your battery is by its age. The aged batteries start to fail and they need to be replaced. The car battery last generally for 5 years. Here are some common signs of battery failures.
Headlights become dim
The headlights need electricity to glow. If it doesn’t glow then there must be something that is stopping the current from reaching the bulb. The battery failure is one of its causes. Mostly, the problems in the battery make the headlights dim or flicker.
Slow to start
If your car is not starting easily and take much time to start, then the battery can be the reason because it’s the on which supply power to the starter.
Rotten egg smell
The rotten egg smell from the hood can be a great sign of the leaking battery.
Conclusion
If you get the signs of battery failure, then immediately check the battery and if the fix cannot be done by you then take the help of a mechanic to replace it.
