Why Online Religious Education is Important for the Catholic Church

Author: Dorothy Baired

In a modern society that is centered on technology, new methods for spreading the Catholic Faith and evangelizing souls are emerging. These new trends allow the Church to spread the same timeless Faith but in a way that is engaging, interactive and accessible to those who find it difficult to attend in-person religious education classes.

Founded in 2004, CatechismClass.com has been at the forefront of making the best online religious education courses available to Catholics for over a decade. As the world changes, the Church is able to use new resources than in times past to spread the same, changeless Catholic Faith.

We have developed its K-12 program for use in schools, parishes, dioceses, and private homes. The goal of CatechismClass, as designed by Fr. James D. Zatalava, is to revolutionize catechesis by making good catechesis available for all who desire it, even those unable to attend in-person classes.

CatechismClass’s programs have eliminated the common excuse that children can't be expected to miss sports or extracurricular activities for religious education. And it also makes it possible for children with disabilities (mental or physical) to learn at their own pace (we have received many testimonies thanking us for making this possible).

Are all of programs meant to replace in-person, conventional learning that would take place weekly at a parish church? No, they do not have to replace in-person learning. We believe that we produce the best and first online textbook for its kind for faith formation. Our products are not necessarily meant to replace community learning - they are meant to provide the best textbook out there, which happens to also be online.

Above all, our basic catholic catechism course are meant to make the Catholic Faith more available to all. Our mission is to spread the Faith to as many souls as possible, to bring about conversions, to better educate our Catholic teachers and even priests, and to bring about more frequent and fervent reception of the Sacraments.

With our RCIA program, parishes are using it for their members who lead busy travel schedules for work or who suffer from a disability that makes weekly classroom time difficult. Our children's courses have helped dozens of families teach their children the Faith without having to go to in-person classes. Families can also supplement classes that are not at their child’s pace, allowing higher achieving students to have more engaging learning online.
