Although most consumers are aware of some price cuts from Japanese car manufacturers due to the new Japan Australia trade agreement. However, Subaru has taken this one step further and is now offering up to a massive 25% on several models including the Subaru Liberty and Outback. While you would expect to see the company to have looked to mitigate this with some compromises on features. However, you may be surprised at what the 2015 Subaru Liberty has to offer.

The Reasons Behind the Pricing Change:

In its prime, the Subaru Liberty was considered a frontrunner in the mid size sedan segment. Together with the Outback the model had sales of 14,500 back in 2006. Sales figures for last year were just over 3,000 units.

However, Subaru were not content to simply let their model drift into memory. The company had previously used the dramatic price cut strategy on the WRX STi. The model was introduced early last year with a discount of up to $11,000. This strategy provided a real boost to sales and the model ended last year with a 330% increase on the 2013 sales figures.

The company have also benefited from the Australian dollar-yen exchange rate since approximately 80% of Subaru’s models are still produced in Japan.

The Pricing Structure for the new Subaru Liberty:

The Liberty is now 25 years old and since Australian buyers are moving from sedans into the SUV market or a small hatch, Subaru faced a challenge to revitalise the Subaru Liberty. Obviously the price is now a very attractive factor for consideration. The base model 2015 subaru liberty with a 2.5 litre petrol engine and continuously variable transmission is offered for $3,000 less than the 2014 model. The discounts scale up, with the 3.6 litre petrol CVT model offered at $14,000 discount compared to the 2013 model. This allows Subaru to cash in on the demise of the Commodore. While the Australian market does not have a high demand for six cylinder sedans, the Commodore still sells approximately 30,000 units each year. According to Nick Senior, managing director of Subaru Australia, when the Commodore disappears in 2017, customers will be looking for a viable alternative.

What the 2015 Subaru Liberty Has to Offer?

The most apparent feature of the 2015 Subaru Liberty is the exterior design. The previous model received a great deal of criticism for its aesthetics. The new Subaru Liberty has a lower profile, 18 inch alloys and a coupe type styling to the roofline. The new design has also increased the size of the cabin pushing the front pillar forward by 50 millimetres. This has created additional legroom for back seat passengers without compromising the boot space.

The interior has also seen an upgrade including a new touch screen multimedia system. There is also a super sized luxury drivers seat for total comfort. The model is also packed with safety features including reversing camera, Subaru Eyesight, seven airbags and Isofix child seat restraint anchors.

The 2015 Subaru Liberty has also been tuned to produce increased fuel efficiency of up to 10%. This is attributed to the automatic stop start and improved aerodynamics. This also means that the new Subaru Liberty feels intuitive, smooth and easy to drive.
