Author: John Josesaf

If the English has TOEFL or IELTS and French have DELF or DALF as a benchmark of their language proficiency, China has a 中国語検定 that is called as HSK test.

HSK that is an acronym of Hanyu Shuiping kaoshi (listening, reading, writing, speaking in 中国語 or commonly called as Mandarin - Mandarin proficiency test) is a test that is conducted to know how far a person’s ability to speak Mandarin. Unlike the TOEFL I IELTS that can be done with one test and then the results can be obtained directly in the form of scores, HSK is a gradual test. It is similar to the DELF or DALF test. There are 6 levels that are split into three appropriate levels. HSK level 1-2 is for beginners, HSK level 3-4 is for intermediate, and HSK level 5-6 is in advance.

The type of questions is different. In HSK level I and 2, the questions that are tested are still contained Roman letters or commonly called Pinyin. So in this case, you do not need to know the specific meaning of the kanji. But for the upper level, it is full in hanzi (Mandarin kanji).

The HSK test or 中国語検定 has undergone many changes than ever before. At the first time HSK test required you to be able to write, but at present HSK doesn’t concern on the writing skill. Even if there is the process of writing, it’s at the top level and has given the long readings. The task is just summarizing such long readings. Or you are required to make a simple essay. It is applied in order to make more people are more interested with Mandarin, after all this time there is also an autotext in mandarin. If you know how to read it, the letters will be easily obtained. To participate in the HSK test, participants are required to register in advance. Not all of the tutoring I school is believed by the 中国語 government to carry out this test. It is only held a maximum twice in a year. It is in the early months like January-February, or at the end months, such as September-November. If you want to study in China, HSK or 中国語検定 is an absolute requirement even though the level required was different. Not only for the college, but also for those who will work and have many clients from China, HSK is quite important. 中国語検定 is recognized in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and others.

At the time of the test, do not forget to bring the original paper admission, identification card (ID card I driving license/passport/and so on.), neatly dressed, wearing shoes, bring 2B pencils and erasers. In the answering sheet, you have to pay attention on the problems numbering. Usually the numbers are compiled from top to bottom until it has no space and then move to its side columns, in the answering sheet of HSK, per column is only contained with 5 numbers. Mobile phone shall be turned off, it is not allowed in silent or in vibrate mode.
