For starters, you’ll need light-duty or utility-grade tape if you have a box that weighs 20 pounds or less, while you might need extra-heavy-duty or premium-grade tape if your box is more than 50 pounds.

Carton sealing tapes may be made of acrylic, natural rubber, or hot melt, each being pressure-sensitive (i.e., can stick to a box simply by pressing it). Acrylic is typically advised for storage, while hot melt is most suitable for shipping. There are also other types of tapes that are made of acrylic and provide the strength of hot melt variants.

Securing the Box

The way you seal your package is as important as the strength of the box you chose.
