Plastic Surgery – First Information

Plastic surgery is caught in the wave of rising popularity among the young and the old alike. That perfect body, the perfect face – everyone wants it. Not everyone knows about the planning and technique that goes into it. Plastic surgery can be done to improve any part of your body. It can be used to eliminate scars, make breasts fuller, fix a crooked nose, etc. In this article, plastic surgeries concerning different parts of the body are discussed.

Let us first discuss Rhinoplasty. If you are frustrated with the way your nose sits on your face, this plastic surgery is the answer for you. There are two modes – open Rhinoplasty and closed Rhinoplasty. The surgeon simply creates an aesthetic, facially proportionate and functional nose through the separation of nasal skin and tissues from the cartilaginous framework of the nose. If you think that Rhinoplasty is a recent discovery/surgery, you couldn’t be more wrong. It is known to have been used since the ages of Sushruta and in ancient Egypt.

Speaking of breast augmentation, it is used to change the texture, size and shape of breasts of a woman. It is especially good news for breast-cancer survivors. Breast implants are used to achieve the aforementioned purposes. They are of three types – saline, silicone and alternative-composition. Saline implants require smaller incisions than silicone implants owing to the fact that the former is inserted as an empty packet which is later filled with a saline solution. Silicone breast implants require larger incision because they come pre-filled with fluid, thus require more space to be emplaced. Silicone implants are filled with semi-solid gel that mostly eliminates the leakage of implant package into the woman’s body. Getting functional breast implants may inhibit breast-feeding. If the surgeon, while surgery, cuts the milk ducts or major nerves innervating the breast, or if the glands get damaged, it may cause breast-feeding problems.

Liposuction is also known as lipoplasty. It is a kind of surgery which removes fat from different locations on a person’s body. All the fat on a person’s body cannot be removed in one go due to several factors. The person has to attend consecutive sessions of lipoplasty. Liposuction is performed on arms, thighs, abdomen and buttocks in women. For men, it is performed in abdomen, chest and flanks. It is possible to model body contouring using liposuction technique. In one go, around 50 pounds of fat can be removed. Even though liposuction is the answer to getting rid of extra pounds, it is not the alternative to a healthy diet and exercise. Lipoplasty evolved in the late 1960s in Europe, and has been in popular practice and demand since then.

Plastic surgery is a big step in medical science today in the sense that it is helping many people, who have their bodies damaged due to mishaps, gain their beauty and confidence back. For the women who have suffered grave illnesses, this medical science helps them step out and mix in again, with confidence.
