An Approach to personal and work injury treatment

Author: Harry Lee

Many medical practitioners do not like treating injured workers for two major reasons:

  • They do not like taking the extra time and effort for fulfilling all the necessary paperwork and documentation
  • All patients do not respond predictably when covered under the worker’s compensation doctor

It makes it highly essential to find a federal workers compensation doctor to get the most out of employee insurance. The second reason causes quite a dilemma for physicians because compensation plans are quite restrictive and often skip out some interventions that are normally prescribed for workplace injuries. This makes it extremely difficult for doctors to explain the causes behind some workers not getting well fast enough if they are under a compensation insurance plan.

Scope of industrial injury

The scope of involvement in cases of industrial or work injuries includes employers, employees, insurance adjusters and physicians. The involvement of so many professionals as well as people who are indirectly involved, like nurses, consultants, ergonomic consultants, therapists, attorneys and others makes matters complicated for the average work injury doctor. Moreover, all parties can have their own opinions which may match but their agendas do not. Their involvement also affects the outcome of the treatment, being aware of how each party is going to react is something that it critical in managing industrial injuries. This is one of the prime reasons why most doctors do not want to get involved in personal and work injury treatments.

In the year 1996, there have been over 645,000 workers who have experience serious work related injuries due to a variety of reasons including overexertion and also repetitive motion during their jobs. Injuries have accounted for over 34% work days lost. This led to the formation of various workers’ compensation funds to tend to injured employees. These compensation funds allow proper diagnosis of all employees and cover all kinds of common injuries that occur.

Consideration before treatment

Before treating any kind of work related injuries clinicians need to be aware of various factors that are likely to affect the outcome and duration of an injury. When addressing factors that are involved more favorable outcomes can be achieved and help the treatment be more effective. When treating work injuries it is also important to check the scope of the federal compensation plans or other work insurance plans the injured are covered under for an uncomplicated diagnosis and treatment.

Most work related disorders are linked to the muscular-skeletal system. In most cases these injuries occur due to the mismatch in the physical requirements of a particular job and the employee’s physical capacity. There are over a 100 types of injuries that can occur due to the mismatch and general wear and tear of bones, ligaments and muscles is just too commonplace. Some of the common industries that are plague by injuries are ones that involve forceful exertion of the human body through heavy lifting, awkward postures and rapid hand/wrist movements. Understanding these musculature injuries is key to proper diagnosis and cure. It’s always important to find doctors who specifically treat federal compensation covered workers to ensure proper treatment and diagnosis of all workers.
