The big fat Indian wedding has grown to epic proportions. And the invitation card has followed suit. The humble invitation card has evolved from being merely informative to being the first experiential preview of the grand affair itself. With the rise of well-heeled, widely travelled generation, there is an increase in demand for contemporary aesthetics.

In an effort to remain unique and memorable, the demand for offbeat touches is on the upsurge. And it begins right from the invitation itself - because the invite is the first impression, an extension of the host’s personality and also a status symbol. When custom-designed, luxury wedding invitations were a distant reality, the Entertainment Design Co. (EDC) debuted the concept in India. The Entertainment Design Co. or EDC with 15 years in the field has carved a niche with their impeccable aesthetics, sophisticated craftsmanship and distinctive design of unique wedding invitations. From the simple to the elaborate, EDC has done it all.

Today, an invite is more than just a card. It includes other supplementary products like chocolates and gift items like items with goodies like sweets or dry fruit. Other favored add-ons are showpieces, carry trays, card tags; the list increases with the creativity of the designer. EDC’s expertise lies in custom-designing invites for each client, with adjustments made according to client preferences. Some cards have extensive laser work while some cards even have names written in real gold. Invites vary from pop-up books to chic monogrammed diaries. One invite that is much sought-after is EDC’s Saath Pheras. It comprises an exclusively designed mini mandap with seven small gifts. Under each gift is the prayer which the Pandit says as the bride and groom walk around the sacred fire. For toddlers’ birthday parties there are invites which are accompanied by teddy bears, chocolates and toys, or anything else that the parents ask for. EDC invites can be divided into two lines, the pret and the couture. As the names suggest, the pret line offers ready-to use cards and while the couture line is more exclusive and can include personalized crests. An EDC invite starts from around INR 300 per card and their most expensive invite till date has been billed at a whopping INR 7,000 per card for the King of Bhutan. In addition to providing customized stationery, brochures, personalized and corporate gift packaging are the other products of EDC.

Firm in the belief that "the invitation should reflect your personality," Kapil and Sandy Khurana set out to offer unique invitations that were eye-catching, classy and memorable. Thus was born the Entertainment Design Co. Today the company is almost revered for crafting haute couture invitations, not just for weddings but for special occasions and even kids’ birthday invitation cards. EDC’s impressive portfolio includes the crème de la crème of India’s swish set; from actors and politicians to sportsmen, industrialists and monarchs. So, when bespoke wedding invitations are the order of the day, EDC is the ultimate name in invites.
