In the words of John F. Kennedy, "Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride."

Cycling is a great hobby and can be developed into a competitive career. These days many people pursue it with passion. It gives you exercise, spirit to explore the outdoors and an opportunity to spend time with loved ones. So why not cater for comfort and style? One thing which combines the two is cycling apparel. Whether you are a beginner or a pro at cycling, you will definitely do much better with the right apparel meant for this sport.

Cycling apparel comes in a wide variety, like caps and helmets, shades, jackets, shorts, socks and shoes. You not only can flaunt this great clothing, but also experience a higher performance. One such essential piece of clothing is bike shorts.

These shorts are sewn to perfection for providing maximum comfort while cycling. They are usually made of spandex, which helps the cyclist stretch better and move freely. If the cyclist is a long-distance athlete, then these shorts become an absolute necessity as the spandex will absorb sweat quickly and allow the skin to breathe well. These shorts almost behave as second skin, as they hug the cyclist better and produce very less friction. They may have a synthetic chamois (a padding sewn into the saddle area which helps in reducing abrasions and absorbing shocks) sewn in as well.

The type of shorts you wear can depend on either the distance or type of cycling. Generally thinner and tighter shorts are worn by athletes when cycling for long distances. Casual or baggy shorts can be worn for daily or mountain biking. Bib shorts are basically shorts held up two suspenders and are worn by experienced athletes. They are paired with a jacket.

Another essential part of cycling apparel is a biking jersey. The material used to make jerseys is mostly a mix of polyester and lycra. This material may have an antimicrobial content to protect the skin better. It quickly absorbs sweat off the skin and evaporates it well. In addition to being comfortable, it also allows the skin to breathe easily.

When you are looking for a perfect jersey for a bike ride, you may want to keep the following things in mind:

a) They jersey should fit well. It should be too tight or too lose. This will help in reducing friction caused by wind.

b) Should have long cut from behind, so as to cover the lower back well.

c) Should have a long zipper in front so that the cyclist is able to unzip it case the weather is too hot.

d) Should have pockets on the back so that the cyclist can carry some essentials and not spill them.

e) Can have longer sleeves if you want to cycle in cooler weather.

Many times, cyclists even get pictures, logos, insignia or wording printed, embossed or embroidered on these jerseys.

So, there is a huge apparel market waiting for cycling enthusiast, which take care of comfort, performance and style.
