Volume, velocity and variety of data have proliferated in the last decade. Many enterprises, these days, generate and even capture tons of data from a variety of sources. This upsurge in data has posed a myriad of challenges as it becomes difficult to fetch useful and actionable insights from massive and unstructured corporate data. To counter these challenges, many organizations are equipping themselves with advanced Business intelligence (BI) and analytics tools.

Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics landscape is constantly evolving. Several trends emerge; some fade away as soon as they emerge, while some go on to become the game-changers. Its already a month into 2016, and we can see several trends making their way into the BI space. In this article, we shall place a focus on some of the emerging trends that are believed to be the potential game-changer.

Data Governance and self-service analytics will no longer be the opponents

Initially, governance and self-service data analytics were seen as natural opponents. However, with the cultural boundary between business and technology getting dissolved, chances are that in 2016 we might see ceasefire. With time, more enterprises realizing that data governance, when done correctly, have the potential to nurture a routine of analytics and which helps in effective service/product deliverables. Moreover, when equipped with a centralized, clean, secure and easy-to- access data banks, more and more people might likely to dig deeper into the data and gain insights.

Visual analytics to become the new language

With more corporate data, getting structured and transformed into proper information, data visualization has become simpler and more insightful. People can visualize their data conveniently and therefore can explore more questions, unlock valuable insights and even share their stories to the experts and non-experts, alike. As the data usage grows, more people will probably turn to data to get answers to several complicated questions.

Moreover, it is even speculated that visual analytics will become a common language, which in turn will empower people to acquire quick and better insights, collaborate meaningfully, and even create a community around data.

Data product chain to get more accessible

With more self-service analytic tools getting into the market, it has changed (raised) people’s expectations (for good). In fact, in 2016, more people are likely to look for more empowerment across the wider data spectrum, especially when workforce is set to expand.

For businesses to stay consistent, it is important to shape up and modify certain crucial data, while on the fly. That is seen as one of the major reasons behind the rising demand for self-service data preparation tools and data warehouses as a natural extension of self-service analytics. This democratization will allow people to respond quickly to shifting priorities.

Data integration will become more exciting

Nowadays, many companies want their analytics to be agile. They want to convey right data to right audience and that too within a short period of time. This poses a huge challenge, because the data mostly exists at multiple locations. Working across multiple data sources sometimes becomes tedious or impossible. In 2016, it is expected that we might see a lot of new companies coming into the data integration space.

With the rise of various advanced tools and addition of new data sources, companies might cease the practice of gathering every bit of information in the same place. Data explorers will integrate each data set to make it more agile.

Rise of Cloud data and cloud analytics

In 2015 people increasingly adopted the cloud. They realized that putting data in the cloud is much simple and highly scalable. Moreover, they observed that cloud analytics enabled them to be agile.

Continuing the same pattern in 2016, more people will embrace cloud. Thanks to tools that help them use web data. More companies are expected to utilize cloud analytics to scrutinize more data and at a greater pace.

Advanced analytics will reach the non-analysts too

Non-analysts across the industries are becoming more advanced in their approach. Most of them are looking beyond the standard charts. They demand a deeper and more meaningful to make their analytics experience more fruitful. Therefore, in this year, organizations are believed to adopt platforms which enable users to apply statistics, ask more questions and stay in sync with their analysis.

Analytics Centre of Excellence (COE) gets excellent

It is been speculated that a considerable number of companies will establish a Centre of Excellence to encourage adoption of self-service analytics. These centers are expected to play an instrumental role in implementation of data-driven culture. Moreover, through enablement programs such as online forums and one-to-one training session, the centers will enable the non-experts to integrate corporate data into their decision-making process.

Mobile analytics will become more independent

Mobile analytics has grown and has moved out. It’s no longer an interface to legacy BI products. 2015 witnessed emergence of mobile-first experience. Experts believe that working with data in the real-world will no longer remain routine, but will become an integral and dynamic part of analytics process in 2016.

People will begin digging into IoT data

The Internet of Things is all set to become more prevalent in 2016. As the volume of IoT data multiplies, so does the potential for insights that, it will generate. Enterprises will look for tools that enables the user to explore the data. Further they can even share the results in a highly secure, governed, and interactive manner.

Rise of new technologies will fill the gaps! There are a number of advanced technologies entering into BI space. A rise of the gap fillers, resulting into a market consolidation is expected to dominate 2016.
