The Los Angeles Fashion District – formerly known as the Los Angeles Garment District – located in the heart of Los Angeles, and spanning 100 blocks, is the center of the Los Angeles fashion industry. There are over 2000 store offering the latest fashion apparels and accessories at both discounted wholesale and retail prices, as well as a large collection of fabrics and notions. Also located in the district is the Santee Alley, best known for its bustling atmosphere and amazing bargains, and the largest flower market in the United States – the Los Angeles Flower District.

There are no metro stations close to the fashion district, but the DASH bus route runs through it. It is also easily accessible through several freeways and both surface and underground parking spaces are available at between $8 and $15.

Majority of the businesses located in the fashion district offer wholesale service and do not open to the general public except on certain days. Only the retail stores in the fashion district are open to the general public every day of the week from 10a.m to 5p.m. However, the wholesale-only shops open to the public on Saturdays, and on the last Friday of the month. The designer show rooms hold sample sales, offering one-of-a-kind apparels and overstocks to the general public at bargain prices.

The Los Angeles Fashion district is also home to the largest selection of fabrics and notions, featuring about 200 wholesale and retail stores, which offer varieties of fabrics including exotic silks and European upholstery, as well as crafts, beading and trimmings. Textile tradeshows are sometimes held at the California Market Centre to showcase different fabrics to designers, stylists and crafters.

Santee Alley – located between Maple Avenue and Santee street – is one of the most popular shopping area. It has about 150 stores and vendors selling the latest fashion styles and accessories, as well as gift item and toys. Items are sold in the Santee Alley at very low prices, however, knock offs and fakes are in great circulation in the alley.

The LA flower district, spanning 6 blocks is the largest flower district in the United States. It offers a striking array of fresh flowers, green and fillers, as well as a large collection of floral supplies. The 50,000 square foot flower market, The Original Flowers Market is the premier wholesale source and admits the general public at special hours for a fee. On the other hand, other floral and flower supply stores in the LA fashion district such as the California Flower Mall are open to the general public every day during the normal working hours and do not require an admission fee.

For a Clean and Safe environment, the LA fashion district has a clean and safe team, who sport an easily recognized yellow uniform. The Clean Team washes the side walk, as well as collects and dispose all of the daily trash, while the Safe Team, who are highly trained patrol on foot and bike and serve as the eyes and ears of the LA Police Department.
