Gender Inequality can be seen all around us in the society. The word "Gender" is not as simple as it seems, instead it has a very complex meaning attached to it. Each and every aspect of the word comes into play when speaking of the various social problems faced by men and women. The biological differences between male and female are the cause for various inequalities seen socially especially at the workplace. Gender Roles constitute the attitude and behavior expected out of males and females in a given culture or society and lay a great impact on the gender inequalities amongst them.

Gender Inequality has been prevailing in our society from ancient times. During the history, men were always made the rulers and had major roles to play in wars and other political and economic affairs. Women were consider to be in the custody of their fathers when they were children and then under the dominance of their husbands after marriage. This trend is still continued in various parts of our countries especially those villages and districts that are still not developed in terms of education, poverty and social status of women. India is an emerging economy where human rights are taken to be an integral part of the government policies, yet, it remains weak socially due to such social disparities.

Girls are also not encouraged to study and thus most of the girls in villages are far away from the basic education also which is the basic right of every citizen in India.

After marriage, a woman is confined to the domestic life wherein she is supposed to take care of the children and elders of the family. This makes women play the role of a care taker. Moreover in the professional environment, men are always considered superior to women. Due to this male superiority, women are never assigned higher designations. It usually believed that women do not have the required caliber and qualification to be working at such high posts.

We at Diya India Foundation, believes that training with special emphasis on women, to make them self –sustainable is definitely the need of hour.

Diya India Foundation has been constantly working to provide skill training to the under privileged section of the society so that they can earn for themselves and have a financial stand in life. Diya India Foundation runs its vocational training centre at Nihal Vihar. The centre has been training women in dress making tailoring and embroidery for them to enhance their skill and earn the livelihood.

Despite of such conditions of gender inequality in our nation, in today’s scenario, women have started taking a stand for themselves. They are ready to raise their voice against all the odds and live an independent life.

We plan to extend our horizon in skill development by preparing individuals for initial entry into employment and specialized occupation. It is the need of the hour to promote education and self-sustaining measures for them especially among the girls in rural areas. They need to be aware of their rights and they should be well versed with the fact that they are born not to be suppressed by the society but to have their own individuality in the society.
