It is only when you are ordering a cake for your wedding that you realize what ‘The Wedding Cake’ fuss is all about!

One of the top most priorities on a wedding planners list is the cake. It is not just any cake. Just like the ring, the trousseau and the ceremony, the cake has to wow your guests when they set their eyes on it and gape wider when they devour it.

Every new bakery that opens ensures they have the wedding specials, not many bakeries can survive long without that. Some bakeries make them so special that these wedding cakes become reason enough to get married.

It is no mean feat to create a wedding cake this special; you bear the Herculean risk of being the reason of ruining the best memories of someone’s life. Mind you! It must not only taste great, the looks are far, far more important.

Tiered Wedding cakes are the most preferred choice; they are the classical representation of any wedding cake and are also capable of serving more guests. Tiers can be formed by either stacking slabs of cake one above the other or with the help of pillars supporting multiple layers.

Wedding cakes are generally theme based depending on the venue and theme of the wedding and the colors used. Most wedding cakes match the subtle and sometime outrageous themes chosen by the bride and groom.

Butter cream and fondant are the two types of frostings mainly used and choosing either of these can cause enough fluctuations in the final cost of the cake. Butter creams are much cheaper while the fondant will give you a smooth finished look where you can have tiny petals and flowers detailed to perfection. Elaborate shapes and colors with handmade tiny details up the costs a lot more.

Getting a cake delivered is another monstrous task and it is not just the baker’s responsibility. It requires a lot more co-ordination and assistance than you can anticipate. The cake may or may not be delivered in its final form. If not, the baker will need some open space and cool surrounding to set it up and give the finishing touches. And it is as important to ensure that the cake is stored until or after the ceremony in cooler temperatures considering the venue and theme.

After all, the wedding cake just does not hamper the bride the groom. No one ever wants to be on the side that ruined or even saddened the most beautiful occasion in a person’s life!
