Honda BRIO Prototype is developed with Honda’s advanced technologies, while further advancing Honda’s “man maximum, machine minimum” concept which is a basic approach to Honda car design calling for maximizing the space available for people and minimizing the space required for mechanical components.
Being developed as a city commuter, which is easy-to-use even in urban areas, the Honda BRIO prototype adopts an easy-to-handle compact body (length 3,610mm x width 1,680mm x height 1,475 mm) while ensuring enough cabin space for five people achieved by highly efficient packaging.
With this vehicle, Honda thoroughly pursued the creation of an advanced exterior form, which is compact while asserting a strong presence.
Honda Motor President and CEO Takanobu Ito said at 27th Thailand International Motor Expo 2010, "This car has been developed for Thailand and Indian markets. In India, we want to launch the car within 2011, with price less than Rs 5 lakh." He also said, "India is a very, very important market for Honda. Motorisation in the country is happening at a rapid pace and Honda will like to participate in this with the start of Brio."
Japanese car major Honda's Brio will be powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine, swept volume of engine is expected to be 900cc, with a power rating of around 70 bhp. The car's design is very youthful with fun to drive and is being developed with Honda's advanced technologies, while ensuring enough cabin space, high fuel efficiency, compact exteriors, easy handling, etc.
Honda Siel Cars India Ltd., (HSCI) was incorporated in December 1995 as a joint venture between Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Japan and Siel Limited, a Siddharth Shriram Group company, with a commitment to providing Honda’s latest passenger car models and technologies, to the Indian customers. The total investment made by the company in India till date is Rs 1620 crores in Greater Noida plant and Rs 784 crores in Tapukara plant. HSCI’s first state-of-the-art manufacturing unit was set up at Greater Noida, U.P in 1997. The green-field project is spread across 150 acres of land (over 6,00,000 sq. m.). The annual capacity of this facility is 100,000 units.
The company’s second manufacturing facility is in Tapukara, Rajasthan. This facility is spread over 600 acres and will have an initial production capacity of 60,000 units per annum, with an investment of about Rs 1,000 crore. The first phase of this facility was inaugurated in September 2008. Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. launched its much-awaited small car, the Honda Brio (pronounced as Br-ee-o and means “energetic” and “cheerful” in Italian), in the Indian market. The car, offered as the perfect package for a new era, embodies the best of Honda’s technologies to deliver fun and agile driving, fuel-efficiency, spaciousness & safety.
