UTT or Ultrasonic thickness testing is a special procedure employed to measure thickness of linings and coatings. This testing is carried out usually to measure the thickness of materials. A variety of industries use the method to determine material thickness and they include petrochemical, pipeline, automotive, aerospace, nuclear, pulp and paper, power generation and more.

Let us describe how the UTT ultrasonic thickness testing works. A special gauge is used to conduct the test which is also called the ultrasonic thickness gauge. It is a measuring tool which deploys ultrasonic waves to conduct non destructive tests for material thickness and access of both areas/sides is not required to test materials. The gauge decides on the thickness by calculating the time that the sound waves take to travel and back through the material subjected to testing. The instrument also read the time that reflections take to travel via the transducer and return.

Precautions have to be taken before employing the test and the gauge for the UTT uses pastes or gels to do away with gaps that may occurring between the transducer and the test piece. The most popularly used couplant is the propylene glycol and the testing gauges available in the market are many nowadays. The contemporary testing gauges are the most reliable with their specifications and they are capable of saving data and connecting to computing devices for data logging. Ensure that you get the best machine shop for the testing which is equipped with the latest testing gauges.

Hydraulic fracturing is another process used in oil and gas industry and the procedure is applied to release shale gas by breaking the rocks through pressurized liquid. Primarily water is used as the fracking fluid for the high pressure injection and sand and other proppants are suspended in the water by gelling agents. It is then employed in to wellbore to crack rocks to release natural gas, petroleum and brine. Hager hydraulic fracturing services have been acclaimed as the company with its well equipped machine shop have been serving the gas and oil industries in US for well over 40 years.
