Do More for Your Health - By Dr. Donald Sonn
Posted: Aug 19, 2015
If you are like many people, the uncertain times around you might leave you feeling a bit anxious about where the world is headed. Watching the economy rebound slowly, wondering if you will still have a job in years to come, and hoping that world leaders can find a way for everyone to exist in peace leaves you feeling stressed and worn out.
One of the main reasons why such aspects of life give you grief is because you are not in control. Indeed, nobody on this expansive planet can accurately predict the future (even the weather man!). As much as you might want, you cannot make choices that will ensure a stress-free future.
What you do have control over, however, is your health and fitness levels. Genetic factors aside, you have control over your weight, physique and cardiovascular endurance, to name a few. The fate of your health does not lie in the hands of untrustworthy politicians or knowledgeable investment market analysts. The only person qualified to make a change when it comes to health is you.
Since you are in control of your health, you need to take steps to improve it. You certainly don’t hand over your leg muscles to some professional and hope that in two years they will return strong and toned. The only way you get the health and fitness levels you desire is by being proactive and making the right decisions, both in the gym and when it comes to food.
Do not allow stress to become a factor in your life. During times of stress, people often push physical fitness to the bottom of the pile when it comes to priorities. They spend too much time worrying and become unhealthy eaters. Lack of sleep leaves them tired and worn out for most parts of their days.
Well, few people can claim to be completely "stress free," but you don’t have to worry about what you have no control over. What you can change, however, is your health and fitness – through proper and consistent training and healthy eating. If you are sweating the effects of a financial decision, take the stress out by hitting the gym. The effort expended in physical activity will leave you feeling strong (physically and mentally) to take on life’s challenges.
Instead of sitting in front of the TV and watching news reports talk about the gloom in the world, get your heart racing by logging in some miles as you jog. Breathe in fresh air and take the time to appreciate the beautiful environment around you. Regardless of what goes on around you, life is beautiful, and investing in your health is one of the best ways to enjoy life for long.
