A Review Of The Latest BMW M5

The BMW M5 introduced the ‘sports saloon’ concept in the executive class of cars. The current model is recently launched and is the fifth generation of M5. It continues to achieve the milestones set by BMW and returns a supercar performance from a family car. The BMW M5 is powered by the 4.4 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine that returns a mighty 552bhp. It easily beats the naturally aspirated Mercedes E63 AMG, but speed isn’t the only plus point. The BMW M5 is returns an extremely comfortable ride too, in Comfort mode it makes the long motorway journeys quick and relaxing. The BMW M5 supports a subtle styling which increases its appeal. The quad exhausts, huge vented brakes, many air intakes in the front bumper and 19 inch alloys differentiate the M5 from 535d M Sport. It shares the spacious and premium cabin of the standard 5 Series.

The top of the range interior derived from the Jaguar XFR makes it an excellent place to be. Performance is an area where M5 scores the top marks, its powerful V8 engine takes the car from stationary to 62mph in just 4.3 seconds. The speed is electronically limited to the 155mph, although it is capable of doing a lot more. According to these numbers the M5 equals the Mercedes E63 AMG and is half a second better than the Jaguar XFR in accelerating from zero to 62mph. The old model had a boring semi automatic gearbox system which has been replaced by a seven-speed double clutch gear box that handles all that engine power very nicely. The BMW M5 returns a very engaging and racetrack-like driving experience, but switch to the Comfort mode and it becomes a relaxing cruiser with a comfortable ride. In terms of practicality the BMW M5 falls right in the middle of the E63 and Jaguar XFR.

It offers 520 litres of [boot space. However, folding seats do not come as a standard same as the E6, whereas the Jaguar gets them as standard. This makes you feel short changed for the car that costs £70,000 to buy. That said, the cabin is extra ordinarily spacious unlike the car it has replaced. M5 boasts accommodating and comfortable seats that make the long journeys much easy and relaxing. The leg room is generous both for the front and rear passengers. Although you don’t expect the running costs of the car of this class but still the latest version of BMW M5 is much better than the last one. BMW claims that the M5’s 4.4 litre V8 engine returns 28.5mpg of fuel economy. But with 552bhp going through the rear wheels, be ready to change the tyres frequently.

It is very quick on the road with its 4.4 liters V8 power unit. This twin turbo engine propels the package on the road at amazing speed and pushes the passengers into the seats with the torque of 680 Nm and gives the immense pleasure while driving. It is more efficient than the previous V10 engine which was only 10% up in the pulling power with the 30% extra gas sucking that dents the pocket of driver very hardly but stands on top with 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and top speed of 155mph. the semiautomatic gearbox is very smooth on the road and quicker also than the previous models. BMW M5 has proved it as most safe car in the 5 series line up by winning the all five stars on the Euro-NACP testing service.
