L Make Up Institute Expands To New Space
Posted: Aug 21, 2015
L Makeup Institute was opened in 2010 at Holsum Lofts in Downtown Las Vegas by Lissette Waugh. 44 year old Waugh has been a member of the beauty industry for 25 years and has served high profile clients like Salma Hayek, Paris Hilton and Brooke Burke. Her work has been published in prominent publications like Vogue.
In the first days of the institute, Lissette ran a one woman show doing everything from answering telephones to educating students. Today, five years later, L Makeup Institute has moved to a beautiful 4000 square feet space located on Decatur Blvd. with 100’s of students having graduated and learned the craft of makeup artistry at her institute. With the support of the institute they have a smooth transition from graduation into the professional world. Makeup artistry is the art where students are learning special effects, beauty, body painting and advanced airbrush from qualified educators.
The academy is more than a school: it is a PRO store offering professional makeup and special effects products. Lissette started by retailing beauty products aimed at the captive audience of L Makeup Institute students and professional makeup artists practicing in the area. This was also a great way to educate professionals, an ingenious endeavor that has paid off. Makeup artists of the Las Vegas area have had to outsource beauty products either by ordering online or by travelling. So L Make up Institute is a solution to the problem.
The institute is open from 10:00am until 6:00pm Monday- Saturday. The space offers top brands such as: RCMA, Krylon, Ben Nye, Makeup Forever, Beauty Blender and Cinema Secrets cosmetics and has the second Kryolan Pro-zone store serving clients in Las Vegas from shows like Cirque du Soliel and Blue Man Group.
The makeup industry is lucrative with women spending more than $426 billion a year on cosmetics nationwide. Because of these statistics, there is plenty of room to succeed for small businesses like the L Makeup Institute. Experts say that for a successful entrepreneurship, a business plan or idea is required. The L Makeup Institute’s business plan is not complex, but it fills a need in the Las Vegas market. One must understand where the competition is located, what they are doing and how much they are charging. One must also identify a niche in the market, where there are little to no players providing a product or service.
Waugh has said that the PRO store has been a dream since she started the institute. Today, she is proud of her institute, which is a leading player among the cosmetology schools in Las Vegas. It is a product of her blood, sweat and tears.
