Polytetrafluoroethylene – wondering what that is? Well it the one that is responsible for the non-stick property of your pans and Tawas. Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE, which is commonly known as Teflon, is a synthetic polymer that has proved to be useful for many applications across a wide range of fields.

One might think that Teflon was initially used for cookware, surprisingly that is not true. Polytetrafluoroethylene was first used in industries to coat vessels, seals, and pipes. This was due to its highly non-reactive characteristics. Once Teflon’s characteristics were fully understood and its fame started to spread, people started finding newer applications for it. One such application is PTFE tube. Today, PTFE tubes have gained so much popularity, that they are used in many industries, such as medicine, aerospace, chemical, automotive, electrical, and many more.

Applications and Benefits of PTFE Tube:

Automotive Applications:

Teflon or PTFE tube can withstand temperatures above 250 degrees. This makes it ideal to use PTFE tube for transferring high temperature fluids.

Medical Application:

As mentioned earlier PTFE is highly non-reactive, this means that it is almost inert. This inertness of it has made it perfect for using in medicine. It is used to make catheters that would not react or cause any abrasions when inserted into the human body. It has proved to be very useful in endoscopy and other similar procedures.

Fiber Optics Applications:

PTFE tubes possess good lubricity – a quality that is favorable for fiber optics. This lubricity makes it possible to slide these tubes in without damaging the fibers.

Apart from these applications, PTFE tubes have found to be useful in many more streams such as aerospace for wire harness applications due to its dielectric properties, three dimensional printing to guide the filaments to the die head and also for transferring liquids, production of bearing pads, and many more.

These wide ranges of applications and characteristics have caused a huge demand for PTFE tubes all over the world, including India. Therefore, the PTFE tube suppliers in India and all over the world have started to import and export these tubes to satisfy the increasing demands. The PTFE tube manufacturers make different sized tubes according to the requirements. They then send it to the PTFE tube suppliers, who in-turn supply them to the customers.

Chemical Applications:

Since PTFE is a material that is inert in nature, it can be used to contain some of the highly reactive chemicals. PTFE is also known for its high durability. Therefore, it is used in laboratories as an alternative to glass such as beakers, flasks, and tubes.

Electrical Applications:

PTFE tubes are known for their insulation property and provide insulation up to 500 volts per mil. This property has allowed us to use it in wiring and cable wrap and semiconductors.
