Having received approval from the FDA a couple of years back, Zeltiq, also known as CoolSculpting, is a cosmetic procedure which many people see as a liposuction alternative. Zeltiq in New York utilizes a device similar to a clamp that has two gel patches fixed to it. The unnecessary fat is clamped between the two gel patches and eliminated by freezing them, which leads to the fat cells being destroyed and absorbed by the body as time passes.

Specialists in dermatology have said that Zeltiq uses a method called Cryolipolysis, which is the removal of fat through cold. The main principle behind this is that fat cells are more susceptible to cold than any other tissue in the body and they will be destroyed when frozen. This does not cause any damage to the surrounding skin however, as the temperature is just low enough to destroy the fat cells.

While the results of Zeltiq in New York are not instant, they can be seen after a couple of months following the procedure, as it takes some time for the body to process the frozen fat cells. Moreover, if the patient maintains a fixed routine of exercise and diet, the outcome of Zeltiq may be permanent. Take note that Zeltiq can only destroy existing fat cells, it cannot stop new fat cells from showing up, and thus the patient is deciding factor on whether the outcomes of Zeltiq last a long time.

Overweight people are not considered as candidates for Zeltiq, and cosmetic surgeons say that this procedure is not an alternative to losing weight through an active, healthy lifestyle. People who are considered as ideal candidates for this procedure are those who have not been able to get rid of a fat bulge even through exercise and diet. This procedure is mainly used to remove fat around the abdomen area.

In comparison to a liposuction procedure, Zeltiq in New York is considerably less invasive and requires merely a fraction of the cost and time. Furthermore, there is no downtime associated with this procedure; patients can return to their schedule immediately after the procedure.

Patients who have chosen Zeltiq can undergo the whole procedure in the doctor's office in under an hour without the anesthesia and with only minor side effects, which comprise of redness, bruising, or soreness. Any discomfort, although minor, that the patient feels will soon go away as the cold will numb the treatment area. While this procedure can be undergone repeatedly, the patient should wait at least two months before the next Zeltiq procedure.
