Why Condos Are Better – A Psychological Approach

Purchasing new homes can be a very exhaustive task because of the complications involved – trustworthiness of the developer, location, components and neighbors and most of all the house itself. Home is a place where you come back to relax and spend a stress-free time. It should have all the elements that you need to feel at peace and easy. Your home should give off positive vibes so that it becomes a place where you want to come back to, where you want to stay longer. More often than not the layout of a structure defines the degree of relaxation it will give to the owner – and this is not just theory, it is architecture. Psychology of humans favors open spaces and light in order to invoke positive thoughts and healthy living. A breathing space is also considered healthy as far as the opinion of a medical professional is concerned.

Apartment units that were in circulation since old times were based on more of a ‘roof over your head" concept – just enough to cover your head while you slept. Of course there were all the necessary components present in the dwelling unit: bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and even a balcony. However, these components were arranged in a way so as to make the apartment really compact, and also since there was room to be made for more such apartments in the same building. This used to be the objective – carve out as many apartments out of the same amount of space. These apartments thus became very stuffy sometimes; a feel of claustrophobic living could be seen. The owners put up with it, because they were the only affordable dwellings available then. Decent places with enough breathing space called for more rent or cost.

The trend slowly shifted towards real estate in condos, as the word was out that more spacious and posh living quarters had come into being. In the nascent stages of condominium units’ introduction into the market, they were still only affordable by the rich class. These were residential units that were more spacious, had premium fittings and furniture and a very posh feel. They looked like something right out of a movie. High ceilings, glass doors, bathtubs and modular kitchens – they had it all. Some even flaunted chandeliers. As the location usually was some kind of waterfront, these beach homes became a popular destination for vacationers. People would just rent out a condo and stay there for as long as they liked.

Condos are better than the apartment counterparts in aspects like interaction with the owner. Every component of the condo unit is carefully planned keeping in mind the common patterns in human behavior. Connectivity between various areas in a residential unit is maintained at a level that’s absent in apartments. This, and the privacy of bedrooms remains uncompromised. As far as relaxation is concerned, the scenic therapy available to the owners plays a very important role. Luxury homes must have good scenery right outside their huge wall-to-wall windows – this is almost like a thumb rule.
