A four-day festival is being hosted at Selfridges to celebrate Birmingham’s culture, diversity and talent.

The iconic store is creating a temporary outpost for London's Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) as a way of introducing and showcasing some of the hottest music, art and design talent in the country.

The exclusive Live + Loud event takes place instore and at a restored industrial space in Floodgate Street, Digbeth from October 1 to 4 and will feature commissioned works of art, photography and live music which will draw upon Birmingham’s rich heritage.

Adam Hockney, general manager of Selfridges Birmingham, says: "This is going to be one of the biggest events we will be hosting this year.

"We are thrilled to be at the heart of such a great project and combining the talent, diversity and creativity the city can offer."

Visitors to the Bullring store and to the special ICA curated exhibition in Digbeth will be treated to an array of fashion, art, music, food and beauty activities and pop-ups.

Artists Fergadelic and Ben Sansbury will reflect on Birmingham’s rich music heritage and architecture to inspire their illustrations, whilst photographer Tyrone Lebon will present a new work on slide projectors featuring photographs of local people from Birmingham.

Contemporary fashion designer Ashley Williams will present an installation featuring a unique print from her forthcoming AW16 collection that will be applied to a series of fabrics draped around the walls of the space.

Film and photography duo Tim & Barry, AKA Just Jam and known for their celebrated online TV channel Don’t Watch That, will present rare and unseen archived footage of past broadcasts alongside the full-length footwork documentary, I’m Tryna Tell Ya.

Tom of England will headline the opening live music event with support from Tim & Barry and their signature psychedelic visuals.

On the Saturday night Just Jam will present and broadcast a programme of live performances by Midlands and UK based contemporary electronic musicians including Barely Legal, Crack Stevens, Scratcher and Tsunga.

And Voodoo Rays will provide New York style pizzas and drinks inspired by Birmingham flavours.

Digbeth has been chosen for its cultural references to rock music, dance music, industry and television – and every key festival activity will reference Birmingham’s diverse culture and talent.

The inaugural project, which is being run in conjunction with London’s ICA, has been created to celebrate the city not just as a centre of creativity, but also as a source of inspiration across the country.

Adam adds: "Our partnership with the ICA is incredibly exciting and we are honoured to be working alongside some of the country’s top up and coming talent."

There will also be specialist talks in store, which will resonate strongly with the city’s underground music and fashion scenes.
