Say the words ‘Amalfi Coast’ and generally, image after image flashes through the mind; the glittering Mediterranean Sea, craggy cliff-sides, quaint villages and a distinct air of the cosmopolitan!

The Amalfi Coast is famous across the globe for its striking natural beauty, which is why it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s precisely this spectacular scenery, combined with its distinctive atmosphere, that makes it such a perfect place for weddings in Italy.

Getting Married in Italy’s Most Scenic Coastal Town: Positano

Whilst there are many beautiful locations on this stretch of coastline, including Sorrento and Amalfi itself, few towns can compete with Positano for sheer charm and beauty. As you approach the town via the winding coastal road, you’ll see a mass of brightly coloured houses, tumbling down the steep cliff-sides to the sea below.

Upon arriving, it’s impossible not to be charmed by the place. Narrow alleys lead you past cosy garden cafes, ancient churches and bijou boutiques, before you reach your final destination, the vast expanse of the Mediterranean. It’s precisely this sense of atmosphere and history that makes the town such a great place for Italian weddings.

Seasonal Charm

Of course, many people choose high summer for their Italian wedding, to ensure they get the clear blue skies and vibrant sun. However, it’s important to bear in mind that, when it comes to Positano, the middle of the summer may not be the best time. The town is very popular with tourists, and the narrow streets can get crowded!

Instead, many savvy brides and grooms-to-be plan to get married in the spring or autumn months, when temperatures are still relatively high, but most of the crowds have gone. Even as late in the year as October, it’s not unusual for temperatures to reach the low 20s. Better still, it’s likely that you’ll be able to book your wedding for cheaper if you select a date that’s out of season.

Where Can You Get Married in Positano?>

If it’s important that you have a religious ceremony, then the place to book is the church of Santa Maria Assunta, in the heart of the town. It’s a classical blend of simplicity and ornate décor, and is very typical of churches in this area. Alternatively, you could hold your ceremony at Positano town hall, which has spectacular views of the town below, not to mention the sea.

The town’s 18th century palace, originally designed for Napoleon’s brother-in-law, is also a beautiful venue. It’s in the centre of the town and has easy access to the beach.

After Your Wedding in Italy: Where to Visit>

If your guests are keen to explore the area, there is plenty to see and do on the Amalfi Coast. In addition to some great beaches at Minori and Maiori, there are some beautiful towns to visit; such as Amalfi, which has a cathedral dating back to the 9th century, and Ravello, which is hidden away in the hillsides, and houses the breathtaking Villa Rufalo and Villa Cimbrone.

Alternatively, the bustling city of Naples is under an hour’s drive away, as are the world famous ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. If you’re feeling energetic, it’s also possible to climb Mount Vesuvius and peer into the crater.

How to Get to Positano>

Naples is the closest international airport to Positano, and from there, you can catch local buses to take you to your destination. It’s important to note that there are no train connections in the area. You can rent a car, but be warned, some of those coastal roads are quite difficult to navigate and require a confident driver behind the wheel!

If you’re seeking inWeddings In Italy location that offers real charm whilst maintaining a sophisticated atmosphere, Positano makes a great choice.
