Once an agricultural land surrounded by spacious green patches, today Kandivali has been transformed into a lifestyle hub. Kandivali is one of the oldest areas located in the Western part of Mumbai. According to historians a number of ancient artifacts which belonged to the Stone-Age were recovered in Kandivali. Kandivali is divided into parts Kandivali East and Kandivali West. Mumbai’s International and Domestic Airports are connected to Kandivali through the Western Express Highway.

Kandivali boasts a vast array of educational, health care and entertainment facilities.Among health care facilities in the region are Shatabdi Hospital, Shatabdi General Hospital, Western Hospital and Agarwal Hospital among others. Educational facilities include a number of English, Hindi and Gujarat-medium schools like M.L.R.T. Gala Pioneer English School, Cambridge School, Lokhandwala Foundation School, Thakur College of Engineering & Technology, Gundecha Education Academy and Swami Vivekanand International School.

A number of entertainment facilities like Raghuleela Mega Mall, Growel's 101 Mall, Thakur Mall, Poisar Gymkhana Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana are a few facilities available. However the greatest source of entertainment comes from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park a large protected area in Mumbai and one of the most visited National Park in the entire world.
