Your budget can either make or break your wedding plan. In this article we are going to discuss with you the biggest budgeting mistakes you can make and more importantly, what you should do to avoid making these mistakes.

As you all know, when it comes to planning a successful wedding, the expenses are the most stressful part of the planning picture. Having stress often sparks mistakes, particularly financial mistakes, you end up miscalculating or overlooking and immediacy shoves aside patience and diligence, the swirl of wedding energy tramples logic, thus leading to purchases that will later be deemed as superfluous.

Planning

Do not try to plan the wedding from start to finish over the course of 2 or 3 months. The more your planning time is truncated, the more the amount of money that goes out in a few short months. You will not have enough time between a deposit or down payment and the final payments. Planning over a more extended period of time, your wedding choices will be much more affordable, and save you stressful moments thus allowing you to manage your budget much more efficiently.

Another major mistake that people make is not having a proper budget outline. This is caused by people envisioning a wedding as just a simple affair that you can just plan in a short time. Having a checklist in your head consisting of the major vendors, the wedding dress and your honeymoon destination might make you think you are all set. As you start planning, you will start realizing that you did not have a clear vision of all the costs you are going to incur. You should write out a budget for everything you will do. Have consultations, wedding checklists and talk to other brides to get advice. Make sure that you have everything covered. If you do that from the beginning, you will not encounter surprises at the last minute budget conversations with your wedding planner.

Don’t spend a lot of your time drawing up a budget for the big-ticket items, such as catering and flowers, then forget to factor in all the small items such as cups and bar napkins. These small items can really add up. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase such items. Do the purchases of small items as early as possible. Spend more of your time thinking through all the details and then try to anticipate every possible expense because small dollar purchases can have a huge impact on your overall budget.

Big Picture Items

Do not select a venue that is too expensive for you. Visit as many locations as possible before you make your choice. You will find that there are venues that are good and rather inexpensive. The venue is going to eat up a huge chunk of your budget so make the right decision. Look for a venue that is priced at a reasonable rate and has all the facilities that you need.
