BOBBI BROWN’S WEDDING BEAUTY ADVICE

I’m having a spring wedding in the vineyards and I would like to do my own makeup. Can you give me tips and a chart for a classic yet modern bridal look?

On your wedding day you should look like yourself at your most beautiful. Wedding makeup needs to be long lasting, look amazing in photographs and be timeless. Every bride should love how she looks in the pictures ten years after her big day.

I’ve always believed that beautiful makeup starts with healthy, glowing skin and that starts on the inside. In the lead up to your wedding day, nourish yourself with whole grains, fresh greens and fruits, and clean proteins such as chicken, fish and beans. Hydrate by drinking lots of water daily which will also act to flush out toxins. To strengthen your body and calm your mind, exercise at least three times a week.

If possible, do a consultation and run-through of the makeup before your wedding day. I recommend you book an appointment six weeks beforehand so that you can design and practice the look in plenty of time. Bobbi Brown counters offer a Bridal Beauty Makeup Lesson which can assist you in preparing your skin and can guide you in creating the perfect wedding day makeup.

On the day allow up to an hour for makeup application and ensure set up in is natural light to allow for a flawless application.

MY TOP TIPS AND TRICKS FOR LOOKING YOUR BEST ON THE BIG DAY:

Your skin is the canvas for your makeup – start by making sure the skin looks even and smooth and avoid sunscreens as these can give a "flash-off" to makeup.

Always correct then conceal under the eyes – use a pink or peach toned corrector to neutralise any discolouration under the eye area, followed with a yellow-toned conceal to lighten up darkness.

Perfect your skin tone with foundation. Flash photography emphasises pink tones so even out the skin with a yellow-toned foundation. Select a foundation that’s the same shade as your skin; if it’s too light, it will look ashy and too dark it will look muddy. Set concealer and foundation with Face Powder to assure amazing wearability and reduce unwanted shine.

Get a fresh flush with two shades of blush: a neutral shade that looks like the colour of your cheeks and a brighter "pop" shade. Apply the natural-looking shade on cheeks and blend towards hairline. Next, dust the pop shade of the apples of cheeks. You can also highlight cheeks with Shimmer Brick for a pretty, lit-from-within glow.

Get a picture perfect smile using a bright lip colour of pink, rose or plum. Pale colours tend to look washed out in photos. Select a shade one to two shades brighten than what you normally wear.

Use smear-proof and water-resistant eye makeup and don’t worry about fighting the tears back. After using a lash curler, apply two to three coats of mascara to lengthen lashes and apply a thin line of jet-black gel liner on the upper lashline. Define brows with a soft matte shadow that matches your hair colour.

Your exact shades will depend on your skin tone, but the attached chart is a great example of how to create a classic wedding makeup with a modern twist.
