An Overview On Non-Destructive For Industries

Posted: Sep 22, 2015
Non-destructive testing is also abbreviated as NDT comprises of a lot of testing methods to identify the flaws and damages during the industrial plant inspection. It is an engineering process of testing various aspects of the materials without changing their states. There is no need to cut and open the pieces or scratch the surfaces. On the other hand, several effective testing methods are taken into account without altering them in any manner. This gives the company a chance to test the materials, without changing their physical or chemical properties.
Testing to ensure working conditions
NDT is carried out in several instances such as when the material in question is hazardous or the appearance and quality of the material cannot be compromised. Moreover, by implementing these methods such as Leak Testing Massachusetts on a regular basis, it is ensured that the industrial plant is in a good working condition. The purpose of these methods is to check whether there is something wrong even before the defects are figured out. Besides that, no conditions are employed on the materials, which cause damages such as high temperature, strong electric currents and high pressure.
The testing methods are different for all types of procedures being followed within the plant. Different types of procedure require different ways of practicing them. Some of them are explained below:
Hydrostatic testing: This testing is carried out to test the leaks and burst pressure in the vessels. It provides a reliable safety measure in sacrificial vessels. It can locate the exact location of the leak in the vessel.
Ground penetrating radar: To locate active electrical lines, cables and conduits. It searches for sub-surface high resolution data. The test provides no harm to anyone, and does not emit harmful radiations.
Leak testing: To check the leaks at the bottom of tanks and vessels. Mainly used to search for the exact location of the leak, it is a highly common test utilized in several companies.
Depending on the requirement of the plans, regular NDT ensures that the materials are in good working conditions and meet industry’s standards. They are highly useful in determining the worth of the materials, and whether a company should continue their work with them or not. Moreover, the tests can be performed on various materials and they are highly flexible to work with. Most of the companies perform these NDT tests in order to avoid any type of accident while working with the materials.
