Importance of vacuum bagging:

It is common during the ‘cure cycle’ of laminate, technicians apply mechanical pressure so as to remove the air trapped in between layers. This procedure is called ‘vacuum bagging’. As experts say, vacuum bagging is a tedious task because if the trapped air is not removed, then it can affect the consistency or durability of the laminate. In order to make the vacuum bagging very effective technicians always prefer to use Perforated Release Films.

Simple gadget:

This is a very simple gadget which has pin holes that are evenly spaced. When this perforated film is applied on the laminate, then it removes excess resin, and thereby it helps in a perfect vacuum bagging process. In the first place, the Perforated Release Films is applied on wet laminate and then the film is appropriately covered by what is known as ‘breather felt’. This felt removes the excess resin present in the laminate and thereby the entire process of vacuum bagging will become much easier and effective. If the laminate does not contain excess resin, then non-perforated films are used.

Some of the salient features of the perforated films could be summarized as follows:

  • These perforated films are made using specialized materials like the polyolefin, fluoropolymer and so on. Among the various types of films, technicians are of the opinion fluoropolymer films are considered to be very effective because it can be applied even in high temperature condition.
  • The films can be used in varying temperatures like, for example, 125 degrees centigrade to 160 degrees centigrade. It can also be used on epoxy, polyester, phonetic and various other resins.
  • The films are available in different specifications with varying melt point, elongation, thickness, size of perforation and so on. The application of the film depends on the type of resin, lamination and such other factors.
  • The films do not rupture even when a higher load is applied for vacuum bagging.

Gives smooth finish:

Interestingly, manufacturers have introduced low pressure films, which are known to give out extremely smooth finish to the laminate. This film can be used up to 315 Degrees fahrenheit. Normally, low temperature films will have smaller diameter holes. Like high temperature films, even low temperature films are available in different sizes, thickness and width.

Easy to fix:

Experts point out that perforated films have come as a great boom to give perfect shine and finish to the laminate. Interestingly, the films can be applied with minimum training and experience. Interestingly again, these films are reasonably priced.
