Advantages to going with bespoke tailoring and made to measure shirts

Many consumers who hear the words “bespoke tailoring” may have little idea what this means. They may only be familiar with the terms custom made or made to measure shirt. Bespoke tailoring comes from the verb, “to speak for something.” However these days, this may be translated into the more modern “order for it to be made,” hence customisation or custom made shirts.

What makes tailored shirts different, besides being made to measure shirts? One of the ways a shirt of bespoke tailoring is different is that it is exclusively yours. It is made to measure with your arm measurements, chest measurements, and shoulder measurements, so it is custom made to fit you. This is why many off-the-rack business shirts cannot compare. Custom made shirts are designed with the fabric that you choose, in the colour you choose. This is one of the reasons made to measure shirts are superior to big box department store packaged shirts. A buyer can control how the shirt is made. The cuffs can be customised, along with the collar, and style of shirt. This isn’t possible with off-the-rack shirts.

Quality of fabrics is a consideration with made to measure shirts

Why is the overall fabric quality a consideration? One reason is that men want shirts of bespoke tailoring which need little care, beyond ironing from time to time. Custom made shirts are usually made of thicker fabric so they are less likely to let in the pinholes of light that the fabric from a less quality off-the-rack shirt lets through. With shirts made of a lesser quality fabric, pinholes aren’t the only problem. They may be more susceptible to cuff buttons breaking threads or shirt buttons coming off because threads unravelled. With a made to measure shirt, these small differences are not unnoticed. Cuff buttons are doubly enforced to prevent buttons from breaking threads. Shirt buttons are less likely to come unravelled on a shirt that truly is a made to measure shirt.

Custom made shirts are also made of thicker material. This way, they are less likely to show signs of wear after the standard 100 to 150 washings. Because off-the-rack shirts are not custom shirts, they may be more likely to show signs of the fabric wearing holes after repeated washings. They also may be more likely to show colour fading than custom made shirts. This is why made to measure shirts trump off-the-rack shirts.
