What to Consider When Purchasing a LED Surgical Head Light For Your Practice

Every surgeon needs to choose headlights for surgery. It is important to have an idea of exactly what it is to look for, so that you can purchase a product that works well for you. Today there are wonderful ErgonoptiX LED headlights that provide very bright light, come in a small size, and are light weight. But you still need to sort through all the medical head-lights available out there, and choose something that works for you.

You need to begin by looking at the beam color emitted by the headlight. The color (known as "color temperature") that many recognize as having the very best light for use during medical procedures is natural white. This is because surgery and dentistry tend to involve very detailed procedures. This color, especially the 6000K+ LED, mimics daylight and allows you to not only see well, but also to see the true color of what you are looking at. Color distortion is something that you then do not have to deal with.

You also need to consider the intensity of the surgical head light. Generally speaking, the brighter the better, and while most current LED headlights provide around 15.000-30.000 LUX, some more advanced models by ErgonoptiX such as the D-light Nano and the D-light Micro can reach the ultra-bright range of 45,000 and 85,000 lux respectively.

Another important aspect is the light beam focus. This is an important factor for a number of reasons, not the least of which is avoiding distorted view. With a uniformed beam, all areas will be equally illuminated therefore avoiding image and color distortion. Your eyes will remain strain free while you work even longer days ensuring less general fatigue and higher quality of work.

For Dental procedures, the light beam having a clear edge and a smaller focus area (about 8-12cm at your working distance) means the light will not be shining in your patients eyes while you work.

Weight is also a factor. If the medical head lamp you are using is heavy, it would cause you problems, especially when used in combination with surgical loupes on spectacle or safety frames. After using your loupes for a while, the bridge of your nose will feel the pressure building up. This can cause you discomfort and can even make it difficult for you to continue your work properly. It is best to get lights that are lightweight and which sit comfortably on your loupes and will be light on the bridge of your nose. Getting in touch with ErgonoptiX will get you exactly what you are looking for.
