Make Your Party Unique With a Dr Pepper Cake
Posted: Oct 19, 2015
As the children get older, it is often more and more of a challenge to make their birthday celebrations special. While teenagers want to celebrate on their own, parents often want to be still involved. Although a teenager may balk at the prospect of a kiddies party, you can liven up the celebrations with a few more sophisticated choices including a Dr Pepper cake.
Why Dr Pepper?
Dr Pepper has been around since the 1800s, and a Dr Pepper bottle is still considered a real treat. However, this unique flavour is not only refreshing but can add a sophisticated flavour to even a basic birthday cake. You can also team this tasty flavour with Dr Pepper inspired decoration, decorating your cake like a can or bottle of Dr Pepper. Australia-based parents could also incorporate the Americana into the party theme, serving hot dogs and burgers, while the teenagers enjoy a movie.
Making a Dr Pepper Cake:
The ingredients for a Dr Pepper cake are relatively basic. All you need is 400 grams of sugar, 225 grams of butter or margarine, 100 millilitres of buttermilk, 250 millilitres of Dr Pepper, 2 eggs, 4 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 450 grams of flour.
To make the cake, mix the Dr Pepper together with the cocoa until well combined and set aside. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar, slowly add the eggs and buttermilk. Fold in the flour, baking soda and cinnamon, before adding in the liquid and vanilla. Mix until the ingredients are smooth and well combined. Pour the mixture into a greased cake tin and bake for twenty to thirty minutes at 180 degrees. Allow to cool completely before icing.
If you wish, you can create a very intense Dr Pepper bottle experience by using flavoured icing. Mix two tablespoons of Dr Pepper into chocolate butter icing and beat thoroughly until smooth.
Decorating the Cake:
How you decorate the cake is a purely personal preference. This recipe makes a very attractive chocolate cake, so you could choose to split the cake, fill and ice it. Decorating with birthday candles and colourful edible decorations. Alternatively, if you are feeling very creative, you could create a Dr Pepper bottle on a white fondant icing base to lay on top of the cake. If you lack a steady hand, you may find that there are local companies in your area that specialise in edible decorations. These companies can often "photocopy" a design onto icing for stunning cakes or party pieces. So, you will need to decide whether you want to give the kids a hint of the flavour surprise or keep it under wraps.
