The four Vedas of Hindu culture, the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Atharvaveda, and Samaveda are considered to be the scriptures that defined the lifestyle and beliefs of all Hindus. These Vedas are considered to be extremely important as they consist of the utmost divine knowledge that was only accessible to the privileged people in ancient times. Considered as the source of Hindu philosophy and culture the Vedas clearly display the development of the ideas of spirituality. They are also known as "Sruti" or that which can be heard. It was considered to be an immediate translation of the divine truth given to the Rishis.

As Vedas are also known as Divine Knowledge, therefore Hindus all across the globe consider them as a part of their sacred heritage. Each of these Vedas consists of different number of verses. In fact, you will find about one thousand verses included in the original Vedas that have been compiled in the representative hymns which is preserved in the four Vedic Samhitas that cover various aspects of life. The four Vedas known as Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda came to be considered as the highest or the only science that was given much significance in Hindu ceremonies as well as religion.

The Rig Veda consisted of metrical prayers, the Yajur Veda contained the formulas mainly in prose so that the rishis could mutter them in the course of the sacrifice, the Sama Veda or the book of chants consisted of all the verses taken from Rig Veda that were arranged for singing. Rig Veda is the oldest among the other Vedas and has less servility in it than in the Yajur and Sama Vedas. It is considered to be the oldest written book on the planet that was likely composed between 1,500-1,200 BCE.

The earliest of the four Hindu scriptures consists of 1,017 hymns that have been composed in Vedic Sanskrit, many of which are intended for various sacrificial rites. These hymns are contained in 10 books known as Mandalas which is mostly devoted to the praise of the Gods. You will also find some fragmentary references to historical events that show the struggle between the early Vedic people also known as Aryans and their enemies who were also known as the Dasas. Before you go to buy Rig Veda online or any other Veda, it is better that you have proper knowledge about them. They are a collection of hymns which has been sung in praise of the Lord Almighty and considered to be the most holy of all Hindu texts. The ultimate authority of the Rig Veda is said to lie with the Gods, for they are the origin of thought and poetry.

Some of the hymns present in Rig Veda are attributed to human authors who are considered to be great sages but whose actual historical existence hasn’t been confirmed. The hymns were handed down from their origins in the distant past from poet to poet until they were finally set down in writing as a collection somewhere around 900 BCE. The three gunas that influence our thinking are Sattva, Raja and Tama. These three gunas are present in nature and creation and are responsible for our hidden reactions. The Vedas enhance these qualities in people depending upon how they adapt the knowledge given in these Holy Scriptures and use them in their daily lives.
