The German auto giant the BMW gmbh is one of the top luxury car makers in the world. Many of their cars are available in the Indian market. The company’s X series SUVs the BMW X5 and the BMW X6 are available in India. Their M badge cars (normally used for racing) M3, M4, M5 and M6 Gran Coupe are also available in India and the company wants to expand their M badge line up in India. History

The BMW X5M is a powerful version of their SUV BMW X5. The company calls it a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The car made its debut during the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2nd generation X5M models have been showcased and will be brought to India through CBU route to be assembled in their Chennai plant.

Prices

The BMW X5 costs Rupees 70 lakh in India. The costlier X5M will be priced around Rupees 1.5 crore. The company may be planning to launch the vehicle in India during the festival season. The speculative date is 15th October 2015.

Styling

The X5M exhibits an aggressive body modelled on the X5 SUV. The car has a squat stance with features like a larger ground clearance, new 21" wheels, a wider air dam, sportier bumpers, M badges all around and side skirts. The cabin has ‘M’ instrument cluster, ‘M’ steering wheel and body hugging seats. The cabin will have instruments like the X5 and will include BMW’s iDrive infotainment system and Head-Up display.

Engines and performances

The X5M has the most powerful V8 engine developed by the BMW as far as an all-wheel drive vehicle is concerned. The X5M will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.4 litre petrol engine producing 575 bhp and 750 NM torque. Transmission will be 8 speed steptronic and the expected mileages are around 10 kmpl. The car takes 4.2 sec for 0 to 100 kmph acceleration with a top speed of 250 kmph.

Ride quality

The suspension system with dynamic electronically adjustable dampers and self adjusting air suspension makes the ride smooth. The 20" tyres are Pirelli P Zero Stock type or 21" (optional) Michelin Piliot Super Sports sets.
