Coming back home after a long day at work to be followed by a headache happens often. In most cases, these are tension headaches, which can be easily taken care of by using a balm or having a strong cup of caffeine.
But, when it comes to migraine headaches, it is one of the most nagging headaches that could actually make a person go mad.
What is more shocking about this kind of headache is that once it occurs, it may occur again and again if proper care is not taken. Hence, one has to be very careful regarding it occurrences and its management.
What is this migraine headache attack?
This migraine headache is a neurological disease, which causes a series of recurrent headaches which is primarily due to problems of automatic nervous system. Resulting from certain psychological changes within one's brain, this headache can range from half an hour to a time period of three hours only to recur again after a time gap. Thus, this headache isn't an easy one to pass!
What happens during these attacks?
- During an attack, in most general cases, there starts a unilateral throbbing in the patient's head. Compared to others, it is generally centralised at only one part of the head.
- Blurring of vision is a natural outcome. At times, zigzag coloured patterns can also be seen before one's eyes resulting in dizziness.
- This is followed by tremendous vomiting and nauseous feeling. A very important fact of migraine headaches is dehydration. This often happens after nausea attacks.
General techniques of starting these headaches:
- It is to be noted that these headaches are mostly prone to occur in women. And hormonal changes within their body is a primary reason for this headache.
- For general sufferers of migraine headaches, bright lights are a complete no - no. Hence, it is suggested that they keep themselves mostly in soft lights.
- Certain food items such as cheese, chocolates, sweeteners, food preservatives, oral contraceptives and nuts can trigger this headache.
- Dehydration and lack of prolonged, peaceful sleep are very important factors for reducing the frequency of attacks to a considerable extent.
- Exposure to loud music can further aggravate the suffering. So it is advised that one should avoid such environment as long as possible.
For a patient of migraine it is essential that one keeps a track of their triggers and also times them for further medical use. This will help a doctor study and diagnose medical complexities in a better manner.
It is very essential that during or post these headaches, one immediately consults a doctor for further treatment. General headache medicines can be taken but it is best to consult a medical practitioner in all cases.
Certain behavioural changes can also be brought within oneself such as changes in sleeping routine, changes in dietary plans, regular exercises to reduce migraine headaches to a great extent.
