Posted: Oct 29, 2015
Organ donation is another such endeavor. There are numerous drives, celebrity endorsements of the issue, but the rate of organ donation in India hasn’t seen a substantial increase. It is similar to blood donation. While, giving blood can help save numerous lives, people do not take the trouble of going and donating blood. One of the primary reasons for such failures is the lack of knowledge.
Questions like what is organ donation are quite common even today. This is where bodies like Organ India play a crucial role. Their aim is to educate people on the types of organ donation and clear the myths surrounding it. Like for instance, people still believe that organ donation after death is the only form of donation. People hardly have information about body donation in India after death or cadaver donation and how important it is for the growth of medical science.
Organizations like Organ India clear a lot of these doubts and educate people on the merits of organ donation. They narrate organ donor stories that would encourage more people to take up the cause. They inform people about organ donor cards and how organs like liver, kidney and pancreases can be donated without any harm to the body.
With the advances in medical science a lot more organ donations are possible and many lives can be saved. Eyes, heart, lungs, skin can all be donated and someone’s life can be saved. But, since a lot of these donations happen after a person is deceased, the sensibilities of a lot of people do not allow it. Organ India has launched many drives to spread the word and encourage people to donate body organs after death. This is a pledge that a living person can also take, but after death for this pledge to become a reality, a family member needs to give consent.
Similarly, the concept of brain death also is associated with many myths. A person on ventilator and declared brain dead is dead in medical terms. Even if the heart beats and a ventilator is keeping the person alive, such a person will not wake up. Brain death and coma are not the same things. But, brain death and organ donation is a reality. Organs can be harvested from a person who is brain dead and can help someone else live a fruitful life.
Organ Donation is one of the noblest things to do, if only there is enough awareness and willingness in people, a lot many lives can be saved.
Organ India provides all information and rules about human organ such as organ transplant, eye donation, cadaver organ donation, deceased organ donation, organ donor card, pledging organs, organ recipient stories and film on brain death.
