What Office Partitions Etiquettes Should Be Followed At Workplace?
Posted: Oct 29, 2015
The debate over working in an open space or in cubicles can never be laid to rest. While some may feel open space allows more interaction and brainstorming of ideas others will argue that a personal cubicle increases productivity. However, most offices today prefer partitions over an open space, and this demands healthy behavior and habits at the workplace. If you work in a cubicle, here is some etiquette you need to adopt to maintain good relations with your colleagues.
1. Visit in person
There’s a reason your workplace has modern office partitions, to offer privacy to each employee. Respect this privacy and don’t yell at the top of your voice to communicate with your friend or colleague sitting few cubes away. Walk to their cube in order to discuss your work, this way you won’t disturb anyone and give your body that much needed walk.
2. Keep the music to yourself
If you have the habit of listening to music while working, make sure you keep it to yourself. An office partition does not give you the privilege to be the DJ for your colleagues. Keeping the volume full while using your earphones can also be distracting sometimes if your workplace is generally very quiet.
3. Knock before entering
Whether it’s your best friend or the company’s CEO, this is one etiquette you should adopt as soon as you step into an office. No one will appreciate if you just barge in and start discussing work, no matter how urgent or important it is. Respect their privacy if you wish them to respect yours.
4. No eavesdropping
Although this is a basic etiquette that needs to be followed everywhere, it can’t be kept off this list. Avoid listening to your colleagues’ conversation, unless they are too loud, because then there’s hardly anything that you can do. No matter how curious you get, hearing conversations or peeping into their computer screens is a strict no.
5. Avoid confidential meetings
Confidential meetings should take place in the conference room or an enclosed room. Whether discussing the salary or terminating an employee, important talks should be kept out of the modular office partitions.
