Buying cosmetics online has always led to major misconceptions. Whether you are in India or anywhere abroad, these misconceptions remain.

People are so used to buying their cosmetics on their own, personally, hand-picked from shop counters, that they generally do not take the leap of faith to buy cosmetics online. And even when they do, they seem to go about the process with narrow minds –it is all wrong! Here are 14 myths about buying cosmetic products online.

1. Products are more expensive online.

This is absolutely not true! Products, whether cosmetic or otherwise, cost the same wherever you go. They can never be sold above their MRP (Maximum Retail Price). It is true that buying cosmetics online and getting them delivered to you might incur a slight delivery charge. However, this is a minimal amount, and is not even levied all the time.

2. The more expensive the product, the better.

To buy cosmetic online in India is still to be the new rage. However, there are more people who are being bold and taking this step.

But they seem to be going about it all wrong. Buying more expensive products does not mean that they will suit your skin. For all you know, it might harm it. Your skin responds differently to different products. So it is important to know what suits you best.

3. It is wrong to experiment.

It is not! You should always try new cosmetics. How do you know that they do not suit your skin? However, you need to take this little risk with a little care. If you think that the product is harming you, stop using it immediately. Do not go about blaming online sites for your unfortunate luck.

4. Anti-wrinkle products need collagen and elastin.

They do not. There are perfectly good anti-wrinkle creams that do not pack either of the two. Do not be carried away by this myth.

5. Everyone needs eye cream.

You should never blindly listen to sources. If you think you need eye cream for fresher lining around your eyes, go ahead. However, don’t buy into this myth and lose money for no reason.

6. The company is always right.

Just because a company says their product works, does not mean it does. It may not work for you. You may be the rare exception.

7. Make-up causes acne.

This is only true if you have severe reactions. And that is really rare –even unheard of. Make-up does not cause acne. And even if it does, make-up covers up acne pretty well too!

8. Sensitive skin needs hypo-allergic products care.

This is simply not true. Just because your skin is sensitive, does not mean you have to limit yourself to buying online hypo-allergic products online.

9. Your age does not matter.

Never believe this, whether online of off-line. Age does matter a tiny little bit. As you grow older, you generally need more moisturizing products, unless you took extremely good care of your skin all through your life.

10. Skin care products can replace Botox.

This is a laugh. No skin care product can work quite like Botox or dermal filters. However, if you do not want the Botox, just embrace your natural and savvy look.

11. Mineral oil is a terrible ingredient.

Do not listen to this –ever! Before fancy ingredients came around, all we has was mineral oil or petroleum jelly. And they do work.

12. Cosmetics eliminate wrinkles.

They do not. Aging is a natural phenomenon. Cosmetics can cover it up, but never stop it.

13. Natural ingredients are better than synthetic products.

What if your skin reacts badly to natural ingredients? Do not buy into this myth. Try different products to find out what is best for you.

14. Online cosmetics are the unused and bad stock.

If this were true, all companies would be getting sued and going out of business.

Thus, ladies, you now know a few of the very many common misconceptions. Do not buy into them, but do have a blast when you go and buy cosmetic online in India.
