Finding your Photography Niche

Photography is a vast field. It is a common problem to pick one niche as everybody tries becoming ‘Jack of All Trades and Master of None’. Photography is not being good at every arena; you have to explore yourself and understand the field in which you can do the best and capture photos with paramount depth and meaning.

It is an obvious fact that you must be thinking to try every niche and then selecting one where you find your interest. However, if you want to excel in something, you must know it right before you start. Also, you must choose something that would have a great target audience base because you do not want to establish a business which does not have good future.

Here are a few niches where you can try your hands. Read through them and understand what every vocation expects from you and ask yourself if you can deliver it.

Fashion Photography

If you love styling and want to become rich, you can definitely get in to this area. Right from fashion magazines to shooting clothes, you have to be the best as the career of the models or the fashion brand is in your hands. For being a fashion photographer, you do not need to have a great fashion studio to make your photography brand as you can always work in natural light.

Architecture Photography

Custom outdoors and indoors of houses, restaurants, real-estates and resorts, you can always become an architecture photographer where you can capture, click and license the photos in your name. If you love traveling, you can take this job as you will have to visit a number of beautiful places for outdoor and indoor photo shoot.

Wedding Photography

This is an easy way to make money. You can start your wedding photography business right from the time you start your career. Your job would be to shoot engagements and weddings, click candid photographs of the bride and the groom with the guests. You can capture many emotions as people would be laughing, crying, enjoying and partying all day long through the wedding ceremony.

Sports photography

If you are a sports person, what are you waiting for? Pack your bag, stuff all the equipment in the bag and click live games. However, a football photographer may not be able to capture moments of swimmers. Therefore, you will first have to select the sport in which you can shoot the best photographs.

Product Photography

Product photography is simple. You can keep clicking snaps of each product you come across. If you are a creative person and find creativity in every product, this is your niche. However, you need to understand the entire product with its specifications before you start shooting. And remember, when you are picking product photography as your ultimate niche, you will have to give photography second priority as the products come first. Though people would adore watching how beautiful the products are shot, they would quickly forget it and ask about its specifications.

Wildlife Photography

Love capturing moments when the tiger is running behind his prey? Are you somebody who can take such risks to get in to the forest, wait for hours and sit still to capture one photo of a lion that is just meters away from you? If yes, then go for wildlife photography. It is interesting, fun and adventurous. You would have a little competition in this niche as not many photographers like risking their lives just for the sake of capturing the best shot.

Being a photographer since 13 years, I would always ask you to pick something that would attract you and keep your photography alive. You can then work on your profession and turn it in to a great business.
