How to order food in train

As the Indian Railway Passengers have been demanding for a better and quality good, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has now introduced 'station-based e-catering' to offer meals of choice to passengers. This e-catering service is likely to be started at 45 railway stations across the country which includes Kanpur Central, Gwalior, Allahabad and other stations in the list of the first phase. According to the sources, it is expected that the service will be to 1,144 trains that operated across the country by Indian Railways at the time to come.

By availing this feature, the passengers can now do online food order in train by using website, www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or by dialing toll free number 1800-1034-139 or by sending an SMS meal to 139. At the time of booking the meals on the train, the passengers have to provide their PNR number. Followed by it, the ordered food will be delivered to passengers at any railway station on their way. However, this service can be availed by the passengers who have confirmed tickets.

To order food in train through online, the passengers should have a phone to order the meals. Besides, there is an option to order meals in train through WhatsApp. Also, the passengers can make their payment through online or through cash on delivery option. Further, the food would be delivered to the passengers by the authorised persons. If a passenger wants to cancel the booked food order in train, they can do it within a given period of time. After cancellation, the amount will be refunded with cancellation charge for the passengers who make an online payment.

Moreover, IRCTC has tied up with the major food chains across the country to ensure quality foods are delivered to the passengers. Alongside, the major intention is to provide a wide range of food items. Apart from it, IRCTC has plans to bring in reputed food chains like Wangs Kitchen, Saravana Bhavan, Subway, KFC, McDonald's, Haldirams, Bikanerwala, Niruala's, Sagar Ratna, Kelloggs, Domino's and Pizza Hut.

Here are the 45 railways stations that would avail this feature of online food service in train;

Mumbai Central, Delhi, Bangalore City, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Madurai, Amritsar, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai Central, New Delhi, Allahabad, Kanpur Central, Lucknow, Varanasi, Howrah, Chennai Central, Chandigarh, Gorakhpur, Sealdah, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Vishakhapatnam, Mughalsarai, Varanasi, Jaipur, Bilaspur, Kharagpur, Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ludhiana, Secunderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Chennai Egmore, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrisur, Yasvantpur, Nagpur, Pune, Agra Cantt, Gwalior, Jhansi, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara.
