Lancashire is proud for a number of reasons starting from great people to mingle with, good places to pay visits to and most of all, good food to enjoy. The city is famous for its food that has been locally invented by the people of Lancashire. Eating is a favourite hobby of the locals here but do not assume that they eat anything. Creamy Lancashire is the oldest and most dominant type of cheese in the market that is made using traditional techniques. This fluffy cheese has a creamy flavour and is enjoyed usually by toasting it as it does not get stringy upon heating. The milk that is curdled for making cheese is kept for weeks ranging from 1 month to 3 months. Curds that mature at different times are mixed together to create a unique tasting cheese.

The second type of cheese is the tasty Lancashire cheese that is kept for maturity for more than 3 months for up to a time period of 2 years. The taste of this ‘tasty’ cheese is nutty and is a delicacy in this part of the county. The fondness for this cheese that the people of this county have may be the reason for the name of the cheese to be tasty.

The third type of cheese is the crumbly Lancashire cheese which has a commercial advantage tag attached to it. This cheese is simpler to make as it involves milk from the same day only, unlike creamy Lancashire or the tasty one where curd of different days were mixed together. This cheese is the only cheese that has the name of the county attached to its name but is produced outside the county. The maturity time here is also less that is one to two months.

In the midst of such piquant cheeses, there were certain cheeses that were less popular and failed to catch the consumer’s fancy. For instance, Leigh cheese was stopped and gradually the cheese worn out. The Lancashire bomb is a ball that has Tasty cheese in it and the ball is coated with black wax. There a lot of varieties that you may find here but nevertheless, all cheese produced in this county have taste like no other cheese or its product.
