Linje Rivers: Leadership and the Social Personality

Linje Rivers has always had a very social and outgoing personality. It has served him well in his professional career as an attorney, because being a people person makes talking to new people very easy and even enjoyable for him. All through his college and law school days his outgoing personality helped him to connect with great people, and as he pursued his career, it enabled him to make helpful connections that helped him grow even more. Now, he is Senior Attorney for the Florida Office of Financial Regulation.
There are a great number of benefits to having a social and outgoing personality, for both your personal life and your professional life. As an outgoing person, you can easily meet and interact with new people, build new friendships and make new connections.
People with social personalities are often find themselves in leadership positions. Their ease around people makes them comfortable taking opportunities where they are to lead others. As a boss or supervisor, people with outgoing personalities excel due to their ease in talking to and communicating with people, even people they may not know very well.
If you have an outgoing personality you likely enjoy fast-paced social situations. This may mean that you have quick decision making skills, another asset in the professional setting. When you have to think on your feet during your career, you have the advantage as an outgoing personality. Outgoing people are also great at multitasking, another skill that can be a tremendous benefit in the workplace.
Although there are many benefits to having a social personality, that doesn’t mean that introverts or reserved personalities can’t get ahead in the office, but certain leadership skills come naturally to social people. Outgoing people are also risk takers, since they are constantly seeking conversation and interaction, they also handle tense or difficult situations well because they are used to a lot of things going on at one time, and can diffuse those situations easily.
Linje Rivers used his social personality to build lasting friendships and business connections throughout his academic career at Morehouse College and the University of Florida. In addition to being Senior Attorney for the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, he’s also a board member and Treasurer of the Legal Aid Foundation of Tallahassee, using his leadership skills to help the state of Florida and those who can’t afford legal help. Having an outgoing personality gives you an edge if you want to be a leader.
