Packaging labels are highly important in product industry because together with serving as a layer to safeguard the product, they also serve as a strong marketing tool. Perhaps this is the reason more and more manufacturers are implementing new ideas for their labeling designs. A carefully designed label can become a great medium of communication between your product and your customers, winning the trust of your customers and creating brand awareness. If you see the packaging label of some of the most reputed brands out there, you will understand the different between an ordinary packaging and a beautiful packaging. People when see the labels of these brands, they quickly get the sigh of trust because the brand has already created immense reputation amongst masses.

In today’s world, a wide range of packaging labels have been introduced. Many different brands use different packaging labels, depending upon their brand popularity, their products, packaging styles and customer taste. At the same time, these brands try new ideas and keep implementing new designs such as transparent labels to create more brand popularity. If we properly categorize them, there are four types of packaging labels available in the market as discussed below:

  • Brand label:

This is indeed the most popular type of packaging labels. In brand label, the brand name, logo or an image representing the brand name is printed on the packaging. The clear benefit of this packaging is that is becomes a marketing tool for the product. Also, when you see the brand name of your favorite brand on the hologram stickers, you easily trust the product. Most of the companies out there use this type of label as they do not have to invest more money in marketing.

  • Grade label:

There are some products that are provided with grades, describing the quality of the product. The grades can be a word, a letter or a figure. These grades can be printed on packaging or adhesive label as grade label to represent the quality of the product. Customers may buy the product after seeing the grade given to it. This type of labeling is commonly used in FMCG and food products.

  • Descriptive label:

Descriptive labels are those which describe the product in details. This may include the features, way of using, instructions etc. due to the reason this type of labeling requires more space, these labels are used on large products like electronics. Also, they may be used where the grade alone cannot differentiate the products.

  • Informative label:

Informative labels are those which give detailed information about the product, manufacturer, date of manufacturing, expiry date, additional information etc. These types of labels are generally used as pressure sensitive labels on large products.

Apparently, the types of labels depend upon the type of product they are applied to. Manufacturers use different labels for different purposes, but the basic concept remains the same – providing the customers more and more information about the product.
