Sofa has to be cleaned regularly in order to preserve it in good condition. However sofa cleaning doesn’t have to be a hassle! Check how to maintain your couch in a good condition without much effort.

Get Rid of Dirt and Dust

Dust gets easily trapped in fabric items including your furniture upholstery. It can lead to various allergies, breathing difficulties and even trigger asthma. Not to mention that dust settles in your couch upholstery, dust can make it look greyish and grimy. This is why the first step ofyour sofa cleaning routine should be thorough vacuuming. If you have pets you should also remove pet hair regularly with lint roller or brush. Include this chore in your weekly cleaning routine – it doesn’t take more than 5 minutes but makes a big difference.

Dealing with Stains on the Sofa

Take care of beverage and food spills as soon as they occur. If you don’t you will have to deal with stubborn stains later. Absorb as much of the liquid as possible. If there are food residues, carefully scrape them with a spoon. Spray lukewarm water onto the stain and apply stain cleaner. If you are using it for the first time on your sofa, test on a small hidden area first, to be sure the product won’t deteriorate the upholstery fabric. If it looks good after 10 minutes clean the stain according to the instructions on the label. After you finish with cleaning the couch with the detergent, blot the spot with paper towel and let it dry completely before sitting on it.

Deep Cleaning

It is not recommended to wash the sofa yourself. However, if there are removable cases you can wash them in gentle cycle in your washing machine. Also, if your sofa is covered with synthetic fabric you can prepare a solution from laundry detergent and lukewarm water. Soak a clean sponge into the solution, squeeze most of the liquid so the sponge is slightly damp and gently wipe the upholstery. Do not try this method, if your couch is finished with natural fabric, or blend of natural and synthetic materials. It is strongly recommended by many manufacturers to hire professional cleaners at least once a year for deep sofa cleaning.
