As the tiny feet in your lives take their first steps, you would feel extremely excited to get them their first pair of shoes. But hold on, not yet! Babies need to walk barefoot to learn to get a good grip and walk well. Any sort of hindrance before that can slow down their mastery over walking.

However, once they have mastered it, it is time for you, as parents to invest in a good pair of shoes. While choosing the first pair of toddler shoes, it is important to check the foot measurements of the baby, so that the shoes are of the right fit. Right fit is important in order to avoid the shoes being either too tight to too loose. It can cause foot sores and shoes bites or even lead the child to fall while walking. It is also important for the shoes to be of softer materials with soft yet firm soles. This is to ensure that the baby’s skin is protected from any untoward damage and offer the flexibility they require to grow. There has to be a thumb’s gap between the toe of the baby and the front portion of the shoes.

It is important to ensure that the shoes are light weight, so they can walk easily. Soft sole baby shoes are important, since the feet of the babies can be bend freely while walking. Hard sole shoes would not give that kind of flexibility to the baby’s feet when walking. For this reason, shoes made of softer materials, like soft cotton, soft canvas or even soft leather are advisable. The soles need to be thick to protect the baby’s feet, but must also provide the flexibility of movement.

The softer materials such as canvas and cloth, or even soft leather usually are quite airy, so the child’s feet feels normal and grows naturally. Soft sole leather baby shoes also are quite classy and can be worn to special occasions. The heels of the shoes need to be soft and give the extra support to the child’s feet along with anti slippery grip, so the child can walk well even on slippery or smooth surfaces. The shoes with Velcro can be chosen, so that the child is comfortable when walking. Shoes with laces could be avoided since it has the added risk of the baby falling if the lace is untied. In addition to the above, it is also important to check the size of the child’s feet very often, since children grow fast and may even grow out of their shoe size.
