As there are too many doctors passing out every year and not that many numbers of hospitals to employ all of them, most of the newly certified medical practitioners are getting themselves registered for locum jobs for doctors in UK. This not only helps them to increase their chances of employment, but also helps the various hospitals to cater to their patients seamlessly even when their regular doctors are on leave or there is a surge in the influx of patients in the hospital.

Locum jobs help in gaining experience for a newbie

Instead of doing a locum job, a newly passed doctor can also get engaged in general practice. But then, the chances of doing well there would be thin as they would not have earned the required level of experience or reputation for patients to have faith in them. Hence, income from general practice may not be as per desire.

This is why the new doctors tend to opt for locum jobs for doctors in UK as that gets them the opportunity to work in hospitals and gain enough hands-on experience and reputation. After this they either get a job in one or the other hospital, or can even start general practice on their own after a few years. While income as a locum doctor is not fixed and varies seasonally, but then a locum doctor stands to earn more as compared with a regular and permanent doctor in a hospital.

Locums earn more at times

A permanent doctor would work with a fixed pay structure with definite deductions under the headers of income tax or national insurance. Also, as a permanent doctor would be attached to any hospital, there is no scope to increase the income levels. In such cases, the locum doctors have a dual advantage. The first advantage is that these doctors are mostly registered with agencies that supply locum doctors to various hospitals and are being paid on a real-time basis.

While some agencies recruit locum doctors with definite pay structures, still the scope of working in various hospitals helps in earning more for a locum doctor. Also, the locum doctors get the opportunity to claim a lot of expenses to save tax under the headers of telephone charges, running a car, etc.

Looking at the huge scope of work and increased income levels, many permanent doctors who are attached with some hospital also get themselves registered as locum doctors at the locum doctor recruiting agencies and play both roles happily.
