What is an ultrasound scan?Ultrasound scans are when ultrasonic signals are sent to the baby which is reflected on the baby’s body to create an image on the screen that tracks the position and the movement of the baby. Bone and other hard tissues bounce off the signals of the ultrasonic beams. The color of these images appears white in the image formed whereas the soft tissue appears to be grey in color. An NT scan will be conducted 11weeks plus two days and 14weeks plus one day of your pregnancy. You will get an anomaly scan at 20 weeks to check if your baby is developing normally.

Is the ultrasound painful?The scan is a painless routine except for the transducer that presses against your stomach. You will need to empty your bladder to get maximum comfort. The complete process is said to be a painless procedure.

Is it necessary?One can say that the scans should be taken at least once during pregnancy. It is not mandatory to follow all the scans.
