Why Do We Need a Leak Detection System for Pipelines?

Pipeline operators typically do not know that there is a leak until they get notified by someone about it. At times, it may be too late to remedy the leak. This is where a high-end leak detection system can be beneficial, particularly for pipelines used for gas and oil. Pipeline networks provide a safe and a more economic way to transport gas, oil, and certain types of fluid products long distance, so it makes sense ensure that they are leak-free and compliant to the highest efficiency, reliability, and safety standards.
A leak detection system will be crucial to the proper maintenance of pipelines. Early signs of leaks can be found and remedied before they cause a major problem. Most leaks typically occur due to damage from a nearby construction or excavation activity, accidents, or a low-quality pipeline. Some leak detection systems are offered as services such as tracer gas survey, which pinpoints, locates, and classifies leaks in steel conduit systems. Another type of leak detection service is a cathodic protection system, which tests buried metallic structures that are under cathodic protection.
